The Athena carbon crankset also adopts Ultra-Torque technology in which each crank incorporates a bottom bracket semi-axle and the two cranks combine integrally to form a strong rigid assembly. Thanks to the oversize axle and external cups, the system is very rigid, but unlike other systems that are broadened in the ankle area because of the external cups, the Athena crankset does not make it necessary to change the pedalling position. More rigid and lighter, it transfers the force exerted by the athlete without wastage and with maximum ergonomics. The new 11-speed Ultra-Shift chainrings have been designed in such a way as to have two sectors specialised for ascent and two for descent, which makes shifting much faster and without hesitation. Eight pins on the large chainring allow for faster shifting speeds. The teeth of the chainrings have an asymmetrical profile to facilitate the descent of the chain from the outer chainring.
