Assegai - Double Down / Wide Trail

Greg Minnaar's Signature tires are the essence of his 30 years of racing experience and Maxxis' expertise from over 50 years of tire manufacturing.

"My idea was to design a tire from the best Maxxis treads. I started in the middle with a combination of Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason for this was that the surface of the DHF rolls well and holds super on hardpack, in greasy curves and on wet roots and stones. The DHR II rolls even better and can brake more aggressively.
Then I started on an 'extra' cleat that gives you more support and a constant feeling when you put the bike into the bend on the outer cleats. That brings us to my favourite tyre - the HighRoller. The Maxxis engineers and I redesigned the HighRoller side stud to have pretty much the same characteristics as the original. But with the support from this extra cleat, you have the ultimate wingman when you're rushing hard into flat corners.
In the end, I took the height from the Shorty. The cleats are well supported, so the raised profile can easily bite into forest soil and dry, dusty ground."

3C MaxxGrip
The most popular 3C downhill compound from Maxxis, that many downhill athletes are trust in is called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C Maxx Grip offers the ultimate in grip and slow rebound properties for unparalleled traction in downhill applications.

Double Down (DD) casing:
Doubledown tires are designed like the Maxxis downhill tires: two carcass plies reinforced with a butyl insert in the sidewall. However, thanks to two 120 TPI (instead of 60TPI) carcass plies and aramid bead, they are significantly lighter than the downhill versions, much more stable and robust than the TR + EXO tires and therefore ideal for hard Enduro courses.

Tubeless Ready (TR)
Tubeless tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flatting since there is no tube. Maxxis Tubeless Ready (TR) tires provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tire without the weight penalty. Maxxis TR tires use a standard casing and require the use of a liquid sealant in order to make them airtight. Maxxis Tubeless Ready tires are the only Maxxis tires approved for use with liquid sealants.

Wide Trail (WT) tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work perfectly on all rims with an inner rim width of 30-39 mm.

Note: Tubeless Ready tires require tubeless compatible rims/wheels, tubeless valves, tubeless rim tape and sealing fluid for tubeless mounting. Sealant fluid is not required for tubeless UST tires, but is recommended for increased puncture protection. Installation should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
