Designed from the ground up and incorporating the best features from Cannondale's F29, Scalpel and RZ bikes, the new Scalpel 29’er is a lightweight, plush and precise all-around trail rocket. It will give racers an edge on longer, rougher courses and put smiles on the faces of fast trail riders everywhere.

The Cannondale Scalpel 29 is a truly striking appearance by its organically flowing and massive tubes. While maintaining a very light chassis, Cannondale engineers put a huge emphasize on frame stiffness. Every aspect of the frame, be it the pivots, the tubes or junctions, even down to the components follow that objective – weight and riding fun come in closely behind.
For stiffness Cannondale is going for high tech, from huge diameter organic shapes, an X-12 (142 mm x 12 mm) rear end with no pivot near the axle. Zero Pivot is a description of a special construction that needs no bearings, no bushings, nothing to add weight or cause play, just seat stays engineered to flex along a given path, providing a plush, progressive travel. Scalpel achieves unheard of levels of light weight and efficiency by System Integration design. Cannondale craft components to work together, like the Lefty Hybrid fork and Si Stem/Steerer. Lighter and stiffer than aluminum, more shock proof than steel, Ballistec Carbon can shake off rock strikes and impacts that would destroy Scalpel's flimsy competition. In terms of geometry the bike has some short chain stays to provide a more agile handling, better traction at the rear wheel and unbeaten climbing skills. It shares the identical geometry and rider position as the F29 to make the transition between hard tail and full suspension seamless for the racers.

Highend SRAM XX and Shimano XTR shifting components underline the standard of this XC machine. Magura MT8 disc brakes guarantee control in every situation and stop the bike immediately whenever needed.
A very light but still rock solid wheelset forgive also a harder line. The super light ENVE TWENTY9 XC CARBON can be prepared for tubeless setup.

Thanks to the OPI(One Piece Integration) and construction of the upside-down double bridge design the Lefty Carbon Hybrid XLR is a super light and super stiff suspension unit. It offers 100mm air suspension, a hydraulic lockout (SRAM´s X-Lock) and adjustable rebound damping.
For 2013, the Lefty comes with a new integrated plain bearing with upstream sealing, making the former folding bellows superfluous.
Hence the name Lefty Hybrid. A combination of superior needle bearing technology and the new plain bearings.
Better sealing: The service intervals are more than twice as long as the competition.
