Details on the Fox 38 Float Grip Performance

The Performance Series forks feature the same black anodized 7000-series aluminum top tubes as the Performance Elite, but are equipped with a GRIP damper. Inspired by motorcycle racing, the GRIP damper utilizes FIT Sealed Cartridge technology in combination with a spring-loaded, independently floating piston. GRIP allows excess oil to drain through specially designed ports at the top of the rear shock to ensure consistent damping and increase durability. The rear shock offers three quick-adjust settings for compression damping
(open, medium, hard) and a 10-step low-speed rebound adjustment.

The lightweight FLOAT air spring system automatically balances the positive and negative air chambers, ensuring increased sensitivity and traction regardless of air pressure settings. Riders can fine-tune the characteristics of the positive air spring using spacer rings. The shorter top tube length raises the bottom of the magnesium down tube assembly, creating a hollow lower section and an overall lightweight system.

The floating axle may look similar to other axles, but it offers a significant performance advantage due to its unique ability to precisely adjust the exact width of the fork’s wheel mount to match the spacing of the front hub. This achieves perfect suspension alignment and prevents unwanted friction between the upper and lower fork legs. Floating axles ensure a much smoother suspension movement throughout the fork’s entire travel, thereby improving sensitivity and overall riding comfort in particular.

When the fork compresses, the air volume in the lower legs decreases, causing the air pressure to rise. The more the fork compresses, the more the pressure increases. This effect can unintentionally prevent the full travel from being achieved. The channels in the lower legs help mitigate this problem by drastically increasing the air volume in the lower legs, thereby reducing the additional, unintended pressure increase.

The stiffness-to-weight ratio is the decisive benchmark in bicycle design. Engineers spend countless hours scrutinizing every gram of material to optimize this critical ratio. The completely new lower leg design pushes the limits of what is possible, saving every possible gram without compromising the stiffness and strength requirements for modern enduro and gravity riding.

Modern frame designs and geometry trends demand modern solutions in suspension. The arch is designed to fit perfectly with modern enduro and downhill bikes. State-of-the-art computer modeling techniques helped FOX develop an organic lower leg shape that optimizes stiffness with an absolute minimum of material. The elliptical steerer tube is one of many measures FOX has taken to further optimize the stiffness-to-weight ratio by using material only where it is needed and completely removing it where it is not.

The push-button bleed valves are not included in the scope of delivery for the Performance Series forks but can be purchased separately.
