Having racked up stage wins in the Tour de France, wins at Milan San Remo and Liege Bastogne Liege just to name a few, it is safe to say that the FOIL has made a name for itself in recent years. After all of this success, the logical step was to go back to the drawing board to make something even faster. The all NEW FOIL 30 has been designed to be even more aerodynamic, more comfortable, and to still have that incredibly laterally stiff nature. Featuring an HMF Carbon Fiber frame, an integrated FOIL stem and 11-speed Shimano 105 groupset, the FOIL 30 is a race ready machine.
This HMF-frame is produced with the IMP3™ technology. Engineers have developed IMP™, the newest technology applied to carbon production. Scott's proprietary process allows for lighter construction by removing 11% of the material from the headtube intersection while increasing strength by utilizing high modulus stressed fibers for more precise fiber placement in critical areas.
A dedicated group of engineers within the Scott organization was charged with the task of innovating the most aerodynamic bicycles possible.
With the F01 Aero Technology Scott creates an aero bike with a new tube profile, that perfectly combines stiffness, lightweight and aerodynamics. The foil shapes of modern aero bikes are largely based on models and ratios created for airplanes, but because bicycles attain speeds far less than those of airplanes, these ratios do not necessarily apply to bikes. By implementing original, yet UCI legal ratios, and removing the typical foil’s trailing edge, Scott engineers were able increase frame strength and compliance while simultaneously lowering the overall weight compared to other ‘aero’ road frames.
Every tube in the frame is oriented in relation to the leading edges of the down tube and head tube, as these are the first points of contact for any wind influence. The orientation of seat- and chainstays allows for a turbulence free airflow. The carbon layup results in vertical compliance and increases riding comfort. Internal cable routing, the integrated seat clamp and the aero seat post also follow the principle of minimized aerodynamic drag. A seamless transition from the down tube to the bottom bracket and chainstays offer an additional aero benefit. Furthermore lateral stiffness is increased and the new bottom bracket mold disperses loads to effectively half the stress on this crucial junction. The fork and head tube junction represents an excellent balance between the constraints of creating an aero frame and the need for lateral stiffness in a Road Racing frame. The fork interfaces with the head tube using a 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch crown bearing, promoting lateral stiffness while maintaining the designated shape of the head tube’s aerodynamic leading edge. Stiffness is further enhanced by the fork’s carbon layup. Because there is less variation in the diameter of the fork steerer to crown intersection, the carbon fibers are better aligned and thus better maintain their structural properties.
Furthermore this Scott-aero-innovation is equipped with an 11-speed Shimano 105 groupset. With the Pressfit BB more stiffness and stability is offered at the heavily used bottom bracket. The Shimano WH-RS330 wheelset delivers great aerodynamics, low frontal drag and perfectly fits this aerodynamic competition race bike.
