Andreas Kieling has undertaken expeditions all over the world, getting closer to exotic animals than anyone else. But the most emotional journey for him, who fled the GDR at sixteen, was his trek through Germany. With his dog Cleo, he walked along the former inner-German border. From the border triangle to the Baltic Sea: 1400 kilometers through eight German states in seven weeks. He made friends with extraordinary people and encountered breathtaking animal and plant species: river pearl mussels in the Franconian Forest and wild orchids in Thuringia, lynxes in the Harz Mountains and sea eagles in Mecklenburg.
