The Campagnolo Bora™ series has become almost a brand within a brand as it has developed a name for itself as the gold standard not for merely offering a performance without rival but for offering that same performance that lasts season after season. The Bora™ was introduced in 1994 and weighed nearly 200 grams less than anything else available, incorporated fantastic aerodynamics, superior handling and power transfer that would become enviable by all. From that point forward the Bora™ wheel has been continuously innovated and improved to set a continuous "carbon standard" for reliable performance wheel solutions. With the introduction of disc brakes for road bikes demand for a wheelset truly worthy of the Bora™ name made the development of such a wheel a necessity. As a result, Campagnolo engineers have worked tirelessly to develop a wheel that will come to represent the same standard for quality and performance as its rim-brake counterpart. The Bora™ One DB is a completely new project that stands on the shoulders of the prestigious rim brake version, but incorporates completely new technology to achieve the same fantastic results.
The 24.2 mm wide, full-carbon rim for tubular tires features low depth of 35 mm. It is produced manually with carbon fiber being oriented by hand in a way that ensures maximum efficiency while taking into account the unique forces applied on the rim by disc brakes as opposed to rim brakes. While the aerodynamics of the rim profile are nearly identical, the internal structure has been modified a great deal. Not only has the carbon fiber layup been optimized to save weight thanks to the absence of extra material previously needed for a braking surface but as the structural needs of the rim have changed so with them does the orientation of the carbon fibers used in its construction.
The front wheel, once symmetric, must now compensate for asymmetric loads as created by braking forces applied to one side of the wheel. The rear wheel on the other hand, already asymmetric unit thanks for the cassette, takes on another added element of asymmetry by adding braking forces to the side opposite of the transmission. These asymmetric forces in addition to the asymmetric layout of the disc hub to create space for the rotor make not only a new carbon layup necessary but also calls for modifications to the overall structure of the wheel. To render an asymmetric unit more symmetric in performance the Bora™ One DB incorporates a modified version of the famous G3™ spoke
pattern on the front wheel as in addition to slight modifications on the rear wheel as well.
Thanks to MoMag™ technology there is no need to drill holes into the outer portion of the rim (tire bed) thus allowing for a more efficient surface for better tire adherence in addition to increased integrity of the overall rim structure. The advanced resin and carbon fiber technologies developed in Campagnolo allow for rim holes to be produced directly into the rim and thus eliminate the need to drill spoke holes. Integrity of carbon fiber is maintained, safety is increased and the reliability of the rim is guaranteed as a result. The same internally developed resin and carbon technology eliminate not only ensure longer lasting carbon and carbon color thanks to its resistance to UV rays but also eliminates the need for a clear coat. Campagnolo carbon wheels come out of the mold with the resin creating the clear coat, eliminating the need for additional paint, thus reducing weight.
Carbon layup incorporating Rim Dynamic Balance™ technology ensures even more efficiency of the wheel by adding structural counterweight to an otherwise unbalanced rotational mass that comes in the form of tire valves. All of the aforementioned makes for perhaps the most sophisticated carbon fiber rims available on the market and one of the few that have been tailor made for disc brakes.
Fantastic rims alone don’t make up a race winning wheelset. In order to create a complete performance product the Bora™ One DB wheels use a new and innovative hub design to ensure maximum efficiency. The Mega G3™ technology’s incorporation into both front and rear wheels made a completely new flange design necessary. The Bora™ One DB uses an aluminum hub shell to keep weight to a minimum and employs USB™ ceramic bearings to keep things rolling as smoothly and efficiently as possible. For an accurate adjustment of the bearings and hub a ring for adjustment has been included as well. While different axles will be offered as options the Bora™ One DB will come stock with 12x100 mm thru axle spacing on the front and 12x142 mm for the rear.

Campagnolo® has developed an assembly architecture which, compared with a traditional wheel, makes it possible to improve energy transfer, reduce the stress on the spokes on the right and increase transverse rigidity. This is achieved because in G3™ geometry the right-hand side of the rear wheel is fitted with twice as many spokes as the left.
The results of G3™ system are truly extraordinary: better transfer of the driving torque, better lateral rigidity, reduction of the stress in the rear wheel spokes. And thanks to the G3™ system that compensates for the forces acting on the 2 sides of the wheel, there are no more wheel vibrations, even for heavier people.
The wheel is entirely hand-assembled by a specialized Campagnolo® technician and is checked in every tiny detail with electronic instrumentation.
