Iceland, the "last wilderness of Europe," is considered an Eldorado for nature lovers. Hikers who want to explore the country on foot will be thrilled by the island's dense network of excellently marked trails. The new hiking guide "Iceland - 22 Hikes" from Conrad Stein Verlag describes some of the most exciting routes - from easy rambles to challenging 10-hour tours.
The book is the perfect companion for anyone planning a round trip around Iceland along the legendary Ring Road and wanting to see the island from more than just the car. Author Erik Van de Perre, who has written several travel guides to Iceland, describes 22 day and half-day tours in southern and western Iceland, in the East Fjords, at Mývatn, at Jökulsárljúfur and in Landmannalaugar. Thundering waterfalls, steaming lava fields, glacier lagoons, wild cliffs and many other spectacular highlights await along the way.
For each hike, the author explains exactly how much time you should allow, how to get to the starting point and whether there are nice rest stops along the way. Interesting information about the special features along the way is also included, as well as tips for hikers with children. In addition to the route description, the detailed maps and GPS tracks for each tour, which can be downloaded free of charge from the publisher's website, help with orientation. General information on topics such as "How to get there" and "Accommodations" make planning easier, while the generous illustrations increase anticipation with every turn of the page.
