When Specialized developed the Tarmac Disc, they didn't just want it to be fast. They wanted it to be fast everywhere. Long climbs, windy plateaus, Grand Tour stages, local rides - Specialized built a road bike that met their idea of completeness.

How did they do that? They started with a Rider First Engineered frame and its perfectly tuned ride quality for every size, added groundbreaking aero technology that makes it 30 seconds faster than the Tarmac SL5 on 40 kilometers, and then made it 20% lighter.

When designing the Tarmac, Specialized used advanced aerospace composite optimization software to revolutionize the design and construction of the FACT carbon.

500 individual pieces create seven different frame sizes with the same riding experience - that is the Rider First Engineered philosophy. Specialized tests every layer of carbon on every frame size to ensure that all performance goals are met. To ensure that you get the perfect riding experience, each frame is given a unique layup plan with different layouts, orientations, amounts of material in specific areas and sometimes even exclusive strengths and types of carbon itself.

Aerodynamics are the most important thing to make you go faster. The Tarmac comes with aero features without adding extra weight. During development, areas were discovered where Specialized could add aero features without adding weight - a new fork and new seatstays made from aero-optimized tube shapes. The result is a Tarmac that is about 30 seconds faster over 40 kilometers.

The revised geometry of the Tarmac is based on countless retül data and the input of professional drivers. This has enabled Specialized to develop a Performance Road geometry that enhances the combination of responsive front wheel and short wheelbase for instant response and optimal power transfer.
