Material structure

The ARC 1100 DICUT DISC was developed by DT Swiss and aerodynamically optimized by their aerodynamics partner Swiss Side. It consists of eight symmetrically arranged glued carbon parts of the same size, which contain high-quality carbon fibres. The layup of woven carbon fibers strengthens the material structure, while the ultra-light foam plate on the inside supports high lateral and torsional stiffness.

Rim design

The disc wheel is asymmetrically shaped with a flat side on the drive side and a slightly convex side on the brake receiving side to accommodate the asymmetrically applied drive and braking forces, but also to meet the space requirements for the rear derailleur. The valve hole is covered with a seamless carbon cap that ensures optimal aerodynamics and minimizes turbulence. It can be opened without tools with a 90-degree turn.

The fastest aero wheel from DT Swiss

Compared to an aerodynamically optimized wheel with a deep aero rim, a disc wheel with its full cover provides even more effective airflow. The airflow of the ARC 1100 DICUT DISC wheel flows along the rim surface for as long as possible. In this way, the full coverage prevents an "early" stall and supports a quiet, smooth and even airflow behaviour along the entire disc surface. The generated propulsion is therefore higher and the resulting reduction of drag in crosswinds is more pronounced compared to an impeller with a deep chamber rim.

Wind tunnel results

Within the Aero product range, a comparison was made between the two setups ARC 1100 DICUT 80/80 (front wheel/rear wheel) and the ARC 1100 DICUT 80/Disc. With the ARC DISC wheel, drag is reduced to the point that approximately 1.8 watts less power is required to overcome the drag of the bike. The 80/Disc setup shows reduced drag across the spectrum of measured yaw angles (+20° to -20°) and better sailing effect at higher yaw angles up to 15°. No wheel combination in the DT Swiss Aero product range is faster.

Low weight

At 1100 g, the ARC 1100 DICUT DISC is one of the lightest tubeless clincher wheels for bikes with disc brakes. With modern features such as a wider jaw width and a hooked rim flange, the wheel offers a competitive weight-to-performance ratio and makes it possible to use it even on slightly undulating trails.

Rolling resistance

The rim of the ARC 1100 DICUT DISC has been specially designed for 28 mm tires. Because the rear disc wheel generates less drag, rolling resistance can be optimized with wider tires and a more comfortable ride can be achieved. Compatibility of wider tires (25 mm to 32 mm) with an inner width of 20 mm: Due to the larger air volume, the tire can be ridden with a lower tire pressure without risking a flat tire. As various published test results have shown, a lower tire pressure makes it possible to reduce rolling resistance on normal road surfaces with bumps. The shocks caused by the road surface are absorbed by the tire.

Comfort

The light and stiff carbon frames of modern road bikes transmit shocks and vibrations of uneven road surfaces directly to the body. With a correspondingly lower tire pressure, wider tires can counteract this process: The larger volume of air between the road and the rim dampens shocks and impacts more, resulting in more comfort while riding.

180 DICUT hub with Ratchet EXP

The ARC 1100 DICUT DISC wheel is mounted with a 180 DICUT hub with the Ratchet EXP system. The ultra-light SINC Ceramic bearings ensure optimal rolling characteristics of the hub. The design of the Ratchet EXP system allows for greater spacing of the SINC Ceramic bearings, ensuring longer life of the same. The reduced number of components reduces maintenance and achieves a lower weight.
