Description of ZIPP 840 Tubular 650c Carbon Disc Wheel

Zipp is in the business of helping people win races, and some people use smaller wheels. So Zipp has scaled down the classic 900 to accommodate 650c riders who are just as worthy of a disc that is wickedly fast, freakishly light and offers an incredibly smooth ride. The Zipp 840 disc wheel demonstrates that disc wheels didn't have to weigh as much as a small pet while offering high stiffness. At just 890g with a cassette hub, the 840 is light enough for the hilliest triathlon or time trial courses.

Zipp was founded 20 years ago to produce carbon fiber discs that were lighter and faster than anything else available at the time. Today, the 840 still reflects that commitment to giving you the perfect tool for whatever situation you find yourself in.

You’ll also see the disc skin is embossed with over 4900 dimples of 5 different diameters in a pattern which forces the airflow to form thinner, turbulent boundary layers. This significantly reduces the interference drag. The turbulent layer also adheres to the wheel skin throughout an increased airflow angle of attack, resulting in significantly lower drag in cross-wind situations, which means you have even more control with the ABLC (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control) disc. Finally, the ABLC increases handling performance by minimizing the low-pressure wake left behind the wheel, allowing for greater tire choice with fewer aerodynamic side effects than seen with other designs. Adding Kevlar, stitched into a 6 bundle co-axial thread and placing this at the rim edge, allows Zipp with its Carbon Bridge technology to "capstone" the top of each outside diameter bridge, providing an improved way to distribute impact forces. This gives from 28 to as much as 50% improvements in impact depending on the rim type and allows to increase the lateral stiffness with minimal weight penalty. Zipp's exclusive VCLC (Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control) technology dramatically reduces rider fatigue, particularly in the hands, arms, neck, and posterior - while greater control of the tire contact patch simultaneously improves cornering grip and minimizes rolling resistance. The 900 disc features ZIPP's exclusive Silica-Ceramic braking surface for responsive deceleration wet or dry.
To complete the package, Zipp has refined its venerable 188 rear hub, reshaping the hub body and pushing the non-drive-side flange and bearing out by 7.5 mm on the rear hub to increase overall stiffness and strength. The 188/V9 has 25 percent more torsional stiffness than a leading competitive hub. This measure of stiffness is crucial for the direct power transfer to the rear wheel for out-of-the saddle sprints. The new hub also is laterally (side-to-side) stiffer that its rival or predecessor.

Notes: Requires special brake pads for carbon rims!

Recommended and approved brake pads for zipp Carbon wheels:
- Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pad
- Zipp Tangente High Performance Cork Brake Pad
- Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro (first version Tangente pad)
- SwissStop® Black Prince pad
- Bontrager cork pads
- Zipp carbon/carbon pads
- SwissStop® yellow pads

For tubular tires only! Use rim cement only (for example Continental). Tufo tubular tire gluing tape must not be used!
