Over 100 Years of Expertise – The Story Behind Ergotec
Ergotec is backed by a family company whose history began in 1918 in Wickede an der Ruhr. Wilhelm Humpert started out producing handlebars, grips, fenders, and pumps. More than a century later, the business is run by Willi Humpert in its fourth generation and manufactures several million handlebars every year.
In 2009, Humpert introduced the Ergotec brand – a natural evolution of decades of expertise in ergonomic bike components. One year later, the company opened its own test center for handlebars and seatposts – now the largest of its kind in Europe.
Guided by the philosophy “Richtig Radfahren” (meaning “cycling the right way”), Ergotec develops products that bring together everything that matters for a comfortable ride: posture, riding style, saddle position, handlebar position, and the right components.
What Makes Ergotec Special
The Ergotec lineup delivers exceptional ride quality thanks to scientifically backed ergonomics and top-tier safety standards.

- Comfort you can feel: The medically certified EP pedals are designed to ease pressure, reduce numbness, and help keep your feet pain-free on longer rides.
- Tested to earn your trust: Every component is developed and tested in Europe’s largest handlebar test center in Wickede/Ruhr – so you know it’s built to last.
- Comfort for your everyday rides: Whether you commute, explore trekking routes, or roll through the city, Ergotec offers ergonomic solutions that make each ride smoother.
The Ergotec Lineup at a Glance
Ergotec focuses on the crucial contact points between you and your bike – exactly where comfort matters most. Whether you want a handlebar for a more upright position, an adjustable seatpost, or ergonomic pedals, Ergotec offers the right solution. And with the Safety Level System, you’ll always find the component that fits your setup.
- Handlebars: Ergotec handlebars bring together ergonomic shapes and premium AL6061 aluminum to keep you comfortable and in control. Whether you prefer flat bars, M-bars, or H-bars, you can tailor them to your fit – wide designs that can be shortened and rise options from 30 to 50 mm for the position you want. Each model carries a Safety Level rating from 1 to 6+.
- Stems: Ergotec stems give you a stable, dependable connection between your fork and handlebar – from classic quill designs to modern A-head stems. They’re built to be robust, easy to adjust, and simple to install. Stem raisers offer even more flexibility. Every model includes a Safety Level rating and is approved for e-bikes.
- Seatposts: Ergotec’s aluminum seatposts make dialing in your position easy, with straightforward tilt and fore-aft adjustments. The lineup includes CNC-machined patent seatposts, telescopic models, and suspension options. The Viper series stands out with four offsets (0/10/20/30 mm) to help you fine-tune your saddle position for smooth, efficient pedaling.
- Pedals: Ergotec pedals are designed around comfort and stability, with large, concave platforms for efficient power transfer. The medically certified EP-1/2/S/Cargo med models are engineered to reduce numbness and foot pain – with proven relief: 91% fewer foot issues and 58% completely symptom-free. Slip-resistant surfaces and inner guide rails add control on every ride.
- Grips and Accessories: Ergotec grips use durable, rubberized surfaces to give you a secure, comfortable hold. Handlebar extensions let you change hand positions and ease tension on longer rides. Rotatable 360° mirrors boost visibility in busy city traffic. Bar end plugs and small parts round out your setup for a clean, complete finish.
The Ergotec Safety Level System – Safety Made Simple
The Safety Level System gives you a clear, reliable way to choose the right handlebars and seatposts for your bike. Levels range from 1 to 6+ – the higher the level, the more safety the component provides. It takes your bike type, rider weight, and overall system weight into account. And when you combine a handlebar and stem, the lower Safety Level always applies.
At Ergotec’s in-house test center – the largest of its kind in Europe – every component is put through demanding endurance tests with 100,000 load cycles, following European standards (DIN EN ISO 4210, DIN EN 15194). So you know exactly what you’re getting.
Levels in Detail:
- Level 1–2: For city bikes and trekking bikes up to 120 kg total weight
- Level 3–4: For trekking bikes and e-bikes up to 140 kg total weight
- Level 5–6: For robust e-bikes and MTBs up to 180 kg total weight
