Description of Manitou Mattoc Pro 26" Fork - 160mm - Tapered - QR15 - red matte
650B Enduro fork!
The Mattoc is a nod to all the trail builders who make this sport possible and Manitou set out to design a fork that is as exacting as its namesake. Manitou built it for riders who like to earn the right to use of gravity. A fork that provides efficient pedaling and yet can handle any terrain you throw at it, making it an ideal platform for enduro riding.
Mattoc is a 34 mm stanchion fork with 160 mm travel, which is internally convertible to 150 or 140 mm (only professionals, spacer included).
The Pro and Expert configuration feature the lightest weight chassis, with taper-wall legs and Manitou's patented deep bore hollow crown on Pro and Expert models. The Pro Model gets additional weight savings with a light weight cartridge damper.
The Mattoc has a new shim based MC2 (Multi Control Compression) Damper, featuring Hi and Low Speed Compression adjusters.
Low Speed Adjust
The on-the-fly Low Speed adjuster allows the rider to dial in just the right chassis control for excellent handling and pedaling efficiency without sacrificing small-bump sensitivity. The low speed adjuster is also remote compatible using the MILO system.
High Speed Adjust
The High Speed adjuster allows the rider to fine tune sensitivity over harsher terrain allowing the fork to float thru chatter with maximum traction and ride quality. Pedaling platform is achievable by further increasing high-speed adjustment.
A key (patent pending) feature borrowed from the Dorado is HBO, or Hydraulic Bottom out. The externally adjustable HBO on Expert and Pro models allows the rider to dial in the right end-stroke resistance for larger drops to achieve an endless stroke feel regardless of compression damping set-up, spring pressure, or rider weight.
Dual Chamber Dorado Air Spring
Another technology, borrowed from the Mattoc's big brother, is the Dual-chamber Dorado Air Spring. The moderately progressive rate air spring allows the fork to be most sensitive thru high speed bumps without sacrificing midstroke control.
The Mattoc also features Manitou's patented QR15 Hexlock. QR15 Hexlock boosts stiffness, alleviates stiction and is quite simply one of the fastest quick release axles on the market today.
The chassis design optimizes the bushing spacing for reduced friction and increased stiffness.
Independent oil seal and dust wipers improve reliability and resistance to blow-out.
Capillary seal lubrication maintains constant lubrication of the oil seal without reducing bushing surface area.
TPC rebound circuit is a shim based tapered needle oil flow system. Manitou optimized the oil flow for the best chassis control with no pack-up. This updated design improves traction, provides better ride quality, and maintains control in any condition.
Difference between Manitou Pro and Expert
The Manitou Pro uses a cartridge damping system which saves weight and prevents contaminants. It is more difficult to maintain.
The Manitou Expert uses an open oil bath. Therefore it is slightly heavier and more prone to contamination. But maintenance is easier.
The difference in weight between the two forks is about 114g.
