There’s never been anything that’s middle of the road about the 808 Firecrest
. At 82mm deep
, it’s all out aero efficiency
. Thanks to Zipp’s revolutionary Firecrest technology, the 808 also offers all out performance for crosswind stability
. The new Zipp 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Disc-brake wheelset enhances that speed and stability with the superior performance of disc brakes. Simply put, this is one of the fastest disc-brake wheels available.
How you slow down plays an important role in how fast you go. Efficient speed adjustments on technical sections of road are crucial to conserving energy and maintaining speed. Disc-brakes gained prominence in mountain biking and then cyclocross and now are being embraced for road riding and racing. It’s no wonder. The consistency and power of disc brakes provides precision modulation and stopping power, literally at your fingertips
. The 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Disc-brake builds on the legacy of the 808 as the perfect choice for flat to rolling road rides, races, time trials and triathlon. Pair an 808 Firecrest Disc-brake rear wheel with a 404 Firecrest Disc-brake front… Or rock dual 808s for max aero efficiency.
With Firecrest’s unparalleled approach to the wheel’s center of pressure, the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher also handles crosswinds with the stability you’d normally associate with a much shallower rim
. Add to that best-in-class aerodynamic efficiency, and you have what we like to call aero balance
. Plus, the wide rim shape provides efficient power transfer along with comfort and durability, making it an excellent choice for just about any terrain and riding style.
The 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Disc-brake also offers more versatility and options than ever before in a pure road wheel. Disc brakes for road also open a wider range of tire selections, such as 28 or 30mm tires
, for improved comfort, handling and rolling resistance.
At the center of the 808 Firecrest Disc-brake rear wheel is the 177D hub
, which offers options for riders to switch wheels from quick-release to thru-axle without tools and offers a 6 hole disc brake mount.
About the 77D / 177D hub
- bearing preload precision set - that means no pre-load adjustment is needed
- improved bearing protection and sealant
- Includes Zipp Tangente quick-release skewers with a wider more ergonomic handle to provide more leverage for opening and closing. When closed, the lever contours neatly with the frame.
- Thru-axle compatible - comes with 12x100mm, 15x100mm (FW) and 12x135mm, 12x142mm (RW) thru-axle end caps that can be swapped by hand
- Proprietary flange geometry and spoke hole attachment pattern with Sapim® CX-Ray® spokes to optimize torsional and lateral stiffness without sacrificing weight or robustness.
The 808 Firecrest Disc-brake rear wheel comes with a standard 10/11 speed driver body for SRAM®/Shimano®. For those looking for a wider gear range, or tackling especially extreme terrain, a SRAM XDR driver body for 177D (sold separately) is easily installed to allow for more cassette options, including a 10-42. A 1.85mm spacer is included with the XD driver body and is required for use on the 177D hub. XDR driver body compatible with 11-speed cassettes only.
