At the heart of all GORE-TEX® textiles is an extremely thin, durably waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane. It contains over 1.4 billion micropores per square centimeter. The microscopically small pores are around 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water. This makes the GORE-TEX® membrane absolutely waterproof. The pores of the GORE-TEX® membrane are 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This allows perspiration to escape unhindered. The maximum volume of air that can permeate one square meter of fabric per second (l/m²sec) is 5.0 - creating a truly windproof membrane.
