Opinel Pocket Knife No 08 - stainless - black oak

A mixture of oak wood and black steel for a very modern reinterpretation of the timeless Opinel pocket knife No 08. The BLACK finish of the blade and virole is achieved by means of specific surface treatment (PVD coating). Thus, the resistance to corrosion is strengthened (compliant in contact with food).

This black stainless steel blade has a matte appearance and resists corrosion better than a traditional stainless steel blade. However, this blade is more sensitive to scratches. So be careful not to use abrasive sponges or products for cleaning. The stainless steel with hardness 55-57 HRC of OPINEL blades is an optimized grade that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it does not require special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits if it comes into contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent ...) for a long time.

The handle of the Opinel folding knife No 08

Oak wood is a hard wood that is very resistant, especially to insects and fungi, thanks to its high tannin content. It comes from French forestry and has a brown-yellowish appearance with straight and regular grain. The handle is lacquered to be protected from moisture and dirt.

Stainless steel Virobloc with special surface treatment in black to increase corrosion resistance. This treatment makes the surface sensitive to scratches, so do not use sponges or abrasive cleaners for cleaning.
