Opinel No. 8 Outdoor knife has a very resistant blade of 2.5 mm thickness. It has a serrated part of 3.5 cm, which is very convenient to cut natural or synthetic ropes. It also has a shackle opener for shackles from 4 to 10 mm. The handle resists water and extreme temperatures, plus it has a signal whistle that works in any weather. A comprehensive and versatile tool.
The stainless steel of OPINEL blades is an optimized variety that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it does not require special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits when it comes into contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent ...) for a long time.
The knife handle is injected with fiberglass-reinforced polyamide, which guarantees high resistance to shock, water and extreme temperatures (-40°C à +80°C). A signal whistle without ball is integrated at the end of the handle. It works in all weather conditions, with a strength of 110 dB and a range of about 300 meters in the open air.
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade when open (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade when closed (safe transport).
