Campagnolo Groupsets for Road Bikes - Innovation, Quality & Emotion Since 1933
Looking back on the history of bicycles, there is hardly a brand with a history that’s as fascinating and as inextricably linked with important milestones in bicycle development as the Italian premium component manufacturer Campagnolo. When Campagnolo was founded by Italian cyclist Tullio Campagnolo back in 1933, bicycle gear development was still in its infancy. At that time, it was still common practice to loosen the wing nuts on the rear wheel to change gears, turn the wheel around and place the chain over the sprocket on the other side. It was precisely this process that was the undoing of Tullio Campagnolo during a cycle race over the Passo Croce d'Aune, as he was unable to loosen the nuts with his icy fingers. Just three years later, he registered his patent for the first quick release, which meant you could change gears faster and is still used on modern bikes today. There was fierce competition at the time to be the first to develop a functioning gear change mechanism that allowed gear changes without dismounting. Many systems were launched on the market, but in 1940 Campagnolo succeeded once again, developing the first bicycle rod gears. Not only did these stand up to the test in everyday use, but they were also used in high-profile races such as the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia. As early as in 1949, Campagnolo presented the first prototypes for a pivoting parallelogram derailleur, a device which is still the basis for modern rear derailleurs today, operated via two Bowden cables on the down tube. This revolutionary system was ready for series production just two years later with the Gran Sport 1012, which, in its upgraded version, could be operated with one cable only. This system was further refined, culminating in the birth of the first Record rear derailleur in 1962, followed by the first Super Record Campagnolo rear derailleur in 1973, both of which remain the top groupsets produced by Campagnolo today.

And Campagnolo doesn’t do things by halves, so their hydraulic Ergopower shifters/brake levers are particularly impressive: despite all the technology and hydraulics that go into the small levers, they are surprisingly slim - Italian design is a priority here too, as are the flawless ergonomics Campagnolo has always been known for.
Last in disc brakes, but first in 12-speed! Campagnolo defended their pioneering roll back in 2018 with the launch of their top groupsets Super Record and Record as 12-speed drivetrains. Unbalanced jumps between individual cogs is now finally a thing of the past, no matter the terrain.
In 2020, Campa introduced their first gravel-specific groupset as well as their first 13-speed drive system with the Campagnolo Ekar groupset. The Italians are also launching an exclusive gravel clothing range consisting of Campagnolo jerseys for men and women, as well as bib shorts and cycling socks.
Campagnolo Super Record & Record
Campagnolo Super Record is the crown jewel among Campagnolo groupsets - a truly top-class groupset refined with carbon and titanium, no corners cut. Its "little sister", the Record, does without this extra refinement, but does not differ from the Super Record in any way in terms of technology and functionality. As the first groupsets on the market with a 12-speed drivetrain, the two high-end Campagnolo groupsets mark a new era in road cycling - super-smooth gear changes, whether on the flat or on the mountain - almost like a continuously variable transmission. Whether steep serpentine roads or fast gravel descents, thanks to the enormously wide range - over 450% with the 9-42 teeth cassette - the first 13-speed drive system from the Italian brand is ideally suited to any and every gravel adventure. Of course, the innovative Campagnolo Ekar 1x13-speed Gravel groupset continues to rely on tried-and-tested Campagnolo technology from their high-end road bike series: Ergopower shifters/brake levers, hydraulic disc brakes and Ultra Torque axles. Campagnolo Chorus
