Garmin Tacx Flux 2 Smart T2980 - Direct Drive Cycletrainer - black

Garmin Tacx Flux Smart T2980 Exercise Bike

The Tacx Flux Smart T2980 exercise bike has a compact, maintenance-free and even more realistic and interactive direct drive. Thanks to the fast-acting Smart electronics and the 7.6kg flywheel, even the smallest differences can be felt directly in the legs. Of all Tacx trainers, the Flux has the heaviest actual flywheel with an inertia of 32kg. The stronger the flywheel effect, the more realistic the riding experience.

The Flux 2 Smart communicates via ANT+ and Bluetooth® Smart, allowing it to connect wirelessly with smartphones and tablets. Thanks to the ANT+ FE-C protocol, it is possible to train with Tacx apps as well as with third-party apps such as Zwift and TrainerRoad, i.e. without connecting the Flux exercise bike to another device. In addition, training in standalone mode is also possible. If the Flux is not connected, it simply simulates a flat road.

Flux Smart Electric Brake

Flux Smart exercise bike has an electric brake, the advantages of which are low noise and its maintenance-free. In addition, thanks to the electric brake, resistance can be set as it would be on the road or on an incline. The resistance unit of the Flux Trainer provides a characteristic riding experience by increasing or decreasing the resistance at the rear wheel.

When riding in a virtual terrain or in a movie, it is possible to leave the area to which the brake is designed. To enable cyclists with motor brakes and cyclists with electric brakes to compete against each other in multiplayer mode*, Tacx has developed virtual speed. With this concept, the energy delivered is converted into a specific speed to ensure a fair competition. If this speed differs from the speed of the rear wheel, the virtual speed is shown in red on the display.

* This requires Tacx Trainer Software 4 Advanced (included in the separately available Upgrade Smart package) and a license (free 7-day trial period). See "Software and Apps".

Software and Apps for Flux Smart

The Tacx Flux Smart exercise bike can be connected to your smartphone, tablet or computer via ANT+ or Bluetooth® Smart to use Tacx's own apps as well as apps from other manufacturers. The possibility to run the trainer "stand-alone" gives you complete freedom of choice for your bike training.

Tacx software and apps can be used to train for heart rate, incline or power, for example, and to ride known routes, competitions and races against multiple opponents. The training options differ depending on the application:

Garmin Tacx Training app for smartphones

With the Tacx Training App you can train according to incline resistance, power or heart rate. The analyzer presents the recorded training data on the smartphone display and saves it. The data can then be analyzed via Tacx Cloud and sent to the desired email address using the export function. The result file can then additionally be read into a training software, such as Strava and Trainingpeaks.

Garmin Tacx Cycling app for tablets

The Tacx Cycling App consists of a simplified version of the Catalyst training software, the analyzer and real life video for riding real existing courses.

Catalyst offers professional training programs and performance tests for a scientific analysis of your own training. Training can be done on heart rate, power or incline resistance. Analyser presents the recorded training data on the display of the tablet in the form of graphics.

Cycling in a Tacx film also makes training a varied affair. The speed at which you ride influences the speed at which the film is played. When going up a hill, the brake of the Flux exercise bike creates a resistance so that the percentage of incline can actually be felt.

Software from other manufacturers

Since June 2015, all Tacx trainers are open for the ANT+ FE-C communication protocol and therefore also compatible with training software from other suppliers. This means that in addition to reading out speed, cadence and power, it is now also possible to control the resistance of the Smart exercise bikes using third-party programs. The following software packages are also ANT+ FE-C compatible and can accordingly control Tacx exercise bikes: Zwift, TrainerRoad, Kinomap and Bkool.
