Imposing peaks whose ice-white crowns sometimes shine sublimely, sometimes mystically hide their rugged beauty behind clouds, mountain lakes so clear - and cold - that they take your breath away, lush alpine meadows and a network of mountain huts that is second to none: hardly any other region has such a rich hiking tradition as the Alps and at the same time, with its diverse landscapes, offers surprises time and again, even for experienced hikers.

From the spectacular steep slopes of the Vercors in the French Pre-Alps, over the gentler limestone formations of the Jura, up to breathtaking views of the glaciers of the Swiss Valais, along the wild ridges of the Hohe Tauern and the rugged ridges of the Dolomites, down to the turquoise rivers and lakes of Slovenia's Julian Alps and deep into the huge karst caves of the Dinaric Mountains - the Alps, Europe's largest mountain massif, stretch across eight countries and have produced unique cultural landscapes and a very distinctive alpine way of life.

Wanderlust Alpen accompanies its readers step by step on the most beautiful routes in the Alpine region - on demanding tours with views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn, varied long-distance hikes with overnight stays in huts and bivouacs, or on day trips at lower altitudes. A book full of mountain air and adventure for hikers who want to go high and get a little closer to the sky with every switchback.

With illustrated maps, first-hand tips, and spectacular panoramas, the Wanderlust Alpen book from gestalten Verlag, with 30 routes presented in detail and 21 inspirations for further hiking, shows why this very special mountain range has always had such an appeal.
