Castelli Cold Days W 2nd Layer Women - black 010
The Polartec® Alpha® material is a great insulator - soft, stretchy and lightweight. A few years ago we thought it would be great for baselayers, but it felt rather damp and clammy against the skin. However, when Castelli were looking for more thermal protection for gravel rides in sub-zero temperatures, they tried the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco baselayer - and came up with the perfect combination for cold weather rides.
They worked on the details and perfected this second layer for cold days. Castelli has fitted it with a half-length zipper so that it is not too bulky in the stomach area. And they have positioned the zipper slightly off-center to avoid multiple zippers meeting at the neck. Castelli have kept the fit close to the body so you have the choice of tucking them into your tights or wearing them over them, as they do. They have also found that they work great over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo or Seamless baselayer.
