Shop electric mountain bikes at BIKE24

Steep climbs, flowing trails, and enough energy left for the final descent – an electric mountain bike redefines what's possible in a single day on the trail. It combines the off-road capability of a full mountain bike with powerful motor assistance, giving you more elevation, longer rides, and a more intense riding experience. From full-suspension e-MTBs built for alpine terrain to efficient e-mtb hardtails for forest and trail loops and agile light e-MTBs – you’ll find all top brands with options to match every setup.

Why electric mountain bikes make all the difference

Steep climbs, long trail rides, and still having energy left for the final descent – a good e-MTB lets you approach your day in the mountains in a completely new way.

  • Smart control: App-based tuning of support levels from Power to Eco.
  • Bigger range: Mid-motors delivering up to 100 Nm paired with batteries from 500 Wh give you the elevation and distance to link trails you never could before.
  • More time on the trail: Less exhaustion on the climbs means more energy and focus for the technical sections that matter.

Electric mountain bikes at a glance

You have three main e-MTB types to choose from, each with a distinct suspension setup, weight, and motor concept. Full-suspension e-MTB fullys deliver maximum comfort and traction on technical lines. Hardtails are lighter and more affordable. Light e-MTBs run compact drivetrains for an agile, natural ride feel close to a traditional mountain bike. The right type depends on where you ride and how much motor support you're after.

Full-suspension e-MTBs

A full-suspension e-mountain bike handles everything from flowy trail rides to serious alpine enduro – and they're the most popular segment in the market, from solid alloy builds starting around €3,500 to high-end carbon. With 120 to 180 mm of travel front and rear, roots, rock gardens, and drops are handled confidently, keeping your rear wheel planted on rough terrain. The integrated mid-motor sits low in the frame, giving you a planted, confident ride feel.

E-MTB hardtails

An electric mountain bike hardtail gets you on the trail with 100–150 mm of front travel and a rigid rear – lighter, simpler, and lower maintenance. You can ride it sportily on forest roads, moderate singletracks, or use it as a capable off-road commuter. For seriously technical terrain, a fully remains the better option.

Light e-MTBs

A light e-MTB rides close to a traditional mountain bike. Compact motors with 35–60 Nm and batteries around 320–430 Wh keep the weight low – you feel that as more agility on descents, while the motor still takes the edge off steep ramps on the way up. Expect a realistic range of 40 to 70 km per charge. Use the "Light Assist" motor filter in our shop to narrow down your options.

Choosing the right e-mountain bike

Planning an alpine crossing with friends but your fitness isn't quite there yet? An e-MTB bridges that gap – as long as the motor and battery match the ride. Getting the right suspension for your terrain, the correct wheel size, and a frame that fits are just as important.

What terrain are electric mountain bikes built for?

Suspension, geometry, and motor output define what each e-MTB is built for:

  • Cross-country (XC): Motor assistance makes long climbs and high-mileage tours significantly more manageable, conserving energy for the full ride.
  • Trail: Easier repeated climbing means you link more descents and cover more varied terrain without long recovery breaks between runs.
  • All-mountain: Assistance gets you up long or steep alpine climbs so you can reach demanding trails and remote destinations with less effort.
  • Enduro: The motor gets you back to the top fast – more runs on technical descents, fewer shuttles and hike-a-bikes.

How much torque (Nm) do I actually need?

Most full-power e-MTBs run mid-motors at 85 Nm, with top-end models reaching 100 Nm. Light e-MTBs use more compact units in the 35–60 Nm range. Steep, technical climbs demand more torque; on moderate terrain a lighter motor is plenty. Use the motor filter in our shop to choose between Full Assist and Light Assist options.

How does battery capacity affect range on an e-MTB?

Around 625 Wh has become the sweet spot for most e-MTB riding – realistic for day rides with 1,000–1,500 m of climbing. Larger packs at 700–800 Wh add reserve for long tours or big mountain terrain. Light e-MTBs run smaller batteries (320–430 Wh) to save weight and preserve that natural ride feel. Actual range varies with support level, gradient, surface, and rider weight. Filter by battery capacity in our shop to zero in on the right option.

What's the difference between light and full-power e-MTBs?

- Full-power models offer maximum assistance – around 85 Nm and batteries of 750 Wh or more – but typically weigh 22–26 kg.
- Light e-MTBs run 35–60 Nm motors and 320–430 Wh batteries, bringing weight down to 15–19 kg, much closer to a traditional mountain bike.

27.5 or 29 inches – which is better?

- 29-inch wheels are the standard: smooth over obstacles, stable at speed, with good rollover on technical terrain.
- 27.5-inch or a mullet setup (29" front, 27.5" rear) makes the bike more playful and maneuverable in tight corners.

What frame size do I need?

Frame size is based primarily on your height and inseam. Most brands offer four to five sizes from S to XL. Use the frame size finder on the product page to get a recommendation based on your measurements, or narrow down options directly with the frame size filter in our shop.
