202 NSW – Rise Above

Specially designed for climbing specialists. With its almost weightless speed, the lightest wheelset in the ZIPP lineup to date makes it possible to tackle even the steepest climbs with almost no effort and reach the summit even faster. But the 202 NSW wheels can do more than just climb fast; they also offer decisive aerodynamic advantages during sprints, while impressing with maximum confidence on technical descents. Although built for the high Alps, the 202 NSW wheelset is a first-class upgrade for any lightweight build where even the slightest weight savings count.

The rims build upon the carbon layup of the state-of-the-art 353 NSW wheels with their Biomimetic laminate, which utilizes various mixed-modulus carbon fibers. By mimicking the function of a muscle tendon, this technology maximizes both stiffness around the spoke bed and resilience at the rim flange. While the carbon fibers used on the outer rim are optimized for impact resistance and durability, the high-modulus fibers on the inner rim maintain a consistently stable spoke tension even under the dynamic stresses of riding. The result is a rim design that enables a wheelset weighing under 1,100 grams, which responds instantly to every pedal stroke without sacrificing the durability or the aerodynamic benefits of the 35 mm rim profile on descents.

The combination of TSS construction and a 23 mm inner rim width allows for the use of wide tires and riding with correspondingly lower tire pressure. This minimizes both rolling resistance and vibration-induced energy loss. This not only saves valuable watts on the way to the summit but also improves speed and controllability on descents. The 202 NSW wheels are rounded out by the ZR1 SL hubs, developed in Germany, which connect to the rim via Alpina Hyperlite spokes in a meticulously laced 20-hole pattern. For maximum power transfer efficiency, the premium hubs feature highly corrosion-resistant GRW ceramic ball bearings. On the rear wheel, a freewheel with 66 engagement points converts every watt directly into forward propulsion.

Tubeless Straight Side (TSS) | Hookless Tubeless or Tubeless Straight Side describes the design of the rims. Tubeless-compatible rims can be ridden without a tube, but a setup with a tube is also possible. Hookless or Straight Side describes the shape of the rim flange, which in this case is straight and designed without the classic hook. This design offers advantages in terms of greater impact resistance of carbon rim flanges.

Notes and recommendations:

• Tire pressure: ZIPP specifies a maximum air pressure of 5 bar (73 psi). Depending on the tire width, 5.0 bar / 73 psi (28/29 mm) or 4.5 bar / 65 psi (30–32 mm) is recommended.
• Inner tube: The use of an inner tube is possible, but only in combination with hookless-compatible tubeless tires.
• Warranty: ZIPP offers a lifetime warranty on the 202 NSW wheels, covering all structural damage. Regular seasonal maintenance is required. Parts that require frequent maintenance, such as spokes, bearings and worn freewheels, are not covered by the warranty.
