Shimano is putting shoe plates in the spotlight. The newly designed CL-MT001 cleats not only impress with secure foot positioning, rock-solid stability and greater ground clearance, but they also offer multiple clipping-in options: the traditional method of toe-first, placing the foot on top and pressing down, or heel-first followed by the toes.
The advantage is particularly evident for Trail and Enduro riders when, for example, they want to clip back in after unclipping during technical sections or while riding on residential paths. The different clipping-in methods allow for faster re-engagement with the pedals and make it easier to position the foot correctly. However, the benefits are also apparent in other disciplines. On a Gravel bikes, it is possible to clip back into the pedals in a flash after pushing or carrying the bike, which will particularly appeal to Cyclocross racers. In turn, beginners to clipless pedals will appreciate the gentler learning curve. Thanks to their thin, tapered design, the pedal plates also offer improved walking performance, making them ideal for road bike, fitness and long-distance riders.
The combination of Shimano’s precision-engineered SPD pedals and cleats creates a seamless connection that ensures reliable engagement every time and delivers a smoother overall riding experience. And since the CL-MT001 shoe plates are even backwards compatible, you can simply continue using your existing pedals—but with unprecedented flexibility.
