With the introduction of the Shimano SM-EWW01 Wireless Unit (previous version of the EW-WU101), the electronic Di2 shifting system has been improved. Since then, it has been possible to send Di2 data wirelessly to the bike computer or ANT+ compatible devices. Shimano D-Fly transmits the data using the proprietary ANT protocol. For example, data can also be sent to the Shimano CM-1000 action camera.
Using the small EW-WU111 wireless unit, the Di2 system makes contact with the outside world via ANT Private protocol and can be easily connected to a wide range of end devices, which can then show the current gear and the current charge status of the Di2 battery on their displays. Communication between the EW-WU111, i.e. the Di2 system, and smartphones or tablets takes place via Bluetooth. The new E-TUBE app for mobile devices allows function assignments, switch assignments, multi- and synchro-shift settings to be made and firmware upgrades to be installed on the components. As before, the connection between the Di2 system and PC can of course still be established via the USB cable of the charger.
Note: It is essential that the new BT-DN110 internal battery or the new holder for the external battery (BM-DN100) is installed.
This benefits both the mechanic who wants to make extensive settings or carry out fault analyses in the workshop and the mountain biker who wants to change certain settings on the trail using a smartphone.
Alternatively, the connection to the tablet / smartphone can also be established via the wireless unit in the SC-MT800 information display.
