A classic among hiking trails: on the way on the Rennsteig.
The Rennsteig is considered Germany's best-known and most traditional long-distance hiking trail. Year after year, it attracts a large number of hikers. A good companion on this route is the hiking guide "Thüringen: Rennsteig" from the Conrad Stein publishing house, which, in addition to a precise description of the route, also contains a lot of interesting information about the history of the Rennsteig. From Hörschel on the Werra River, the approximately 170 km long trail leads over the ridges of the Thuringian Forest, the Thuringian Slate Mountains and the northern Franconian Forest to Blankenstein on the Selbitz River. The route description in the hiking guide by Thorsten Hoyer is divided into six stages and is thus oriented to the classic "Pfingstrunst" (Runst = complete hike along the Rennsteig). However, since variants for 5 to 10 days are also presented, individual stage planning is easily possible with the help of the book. A wealth of additional information and tips, from how to get there, to food and lodging options, to recommendations for interesting museums in the region, helps in preparing and planning the tour. Background information about the history of the Rennsteig, geology, fauna and flora complement the OutdoorHandbook and bring the reader closer to the cultural and natural landscape. In this way, the hiking guide contributes to making the Rennsteig an unforgettable experience for hikers.

The author: Thorsten Hoyer, born in 1968, lives in Erfurt and Frankenau in northern Hesse. He was employed for many years in tourism companies and is now a freelancer. Among other things, he deals with the tourist infrastructure and quality assurance of hiking trails. In addition, he also repeatedly tackles extreme tours, such as the 215 km long crossing of the Icelandic highlands without a sleep break in just under 55 hours. He has already written several hiking guides for Conrad Stein Verlag.
