The SLS2 version of the DUKE Baccara 36C rim is 10% lighter than the previous SLS version while enhancing comfort. The profile of the rim has been reworked to improve its aerodynamics and stability in all wind conditions.
This version is compatible with disc brakes, hence it is featuring the benefits of a lower rotating-mass and inertia. Classic clincher or tubeless ready tires can be mounted.

Technologies & Features

Carbon Manufacturing

Carbon UD (Unidirectional layup) rim (DUKE is the proprietor of all its carbon rim molds), designed, developed and tested at their premises in the Vendée (FRANCE). For the this rim generation, the developers and technicians have worked on 3 points: weight, comfort and aerodynamics. Thanks to the SLS2 technology they have lowered the weight by 10%, due to the use of high modulus fibers and a new process of molding in sealed enclosure with resins of new generation. This process also allows better filtration of vibrations generated by the particle size of the bitumen. The comfort is improved.

Rim Profile

By offsetting, the wheel’s lateral strength and its stability was increased without adding weight. Rim drillings are off-center to improve bracing angles for a stronger, more rigid wheel. Plus, with offsetting there’s a better balance between the drive and non-drive side spoke tensions and improved durability over the long-term.

Tire Compatibility & Rim Width

The inside width between hooks is larger with 21mm. This gives more volume to the tires and thus improves performance, comfort and cornering grip. A wide rim also means being able to use thinner and lighter tires while maintaining the comfort, softness and grip provided by a larger volume of air. The recommended tire widths are 25mm and 28mm, tubeless or tubetype. The profile of the rim has been reworked to improve its aerodynamics and stability in all wind conditions. The outer width is larger with 27.6 mm and has a warhead shape. This reduces aerodynamic drag and thus increases its speed. The wheels are also less sensitive to side wind and the steering more precise, the cyclist feels more confident. The best results are achieved with 25mm tires.

Tubeless Ready

The Tubeless compatible rims by Duke (UST, Tubeless Ready and Notubes), only require some Duke rim tape and a Tubeless-ready valve. They can also be used in a classic clincher set up (tyre & inner tube).

SLR2 (Super light road series 2)

The SLR2 series for Road and Gravel is 15% lighter and more resistant than the sls version thanks to a completely new lay-up and a new resin which not only allow the same lateral rigidity to be maintained but also and above all to considerably improve the comfort, vibration filtering and rim performance.

VFP (Varnish Free Process) 

Since 2021, our carbon rims benefit from a unique finish: incomparable brilliance and reflections thanks to a new process called VFP without varnish. This, also and above all, makes them more environmentally friendly by drastically reducing VOC and carbon dust emissions compared with a traditional rim. Without varnish, the rim is also harder on the surface, and more resistant to scratches.
