Thanks to the compact Rapidfire Plus Mono construction, the 2-speed shifter features intuitive operation using just a single lever to shift both up and down efficiently. In combination with the proven 2-Way-Release technology cable release is possible by pressing or pulling the lever. The left SL-M3100-2L shifting lever is compatible to 2x9-speed drivetrain systems. 2-Way-Release allows cable release by pressing with the thumb or pulling with the index finger. So you don't have to adapt your riding style to the rear derailleur, but the rear derailleur adapts to your riding style.
