The 303 XPLR SW is Zipp's fastest gravel wheel ever, thanks to its mega wide and tall rim that pairs seamlessly with gravel tires. The 303 XPLR SW is a speed-oriented gravel wheel designed with a new approach: Zipp start with the perfect gravel tire and then build a wheel around it.

Current gravel wheels are slightly modified versions of existing road wheels that focus on high stiffness and low weight. Zipp takes a different approach, which is all about speed. With gravel, rolling resistance, vibration losses due to rough tracks and wind are a major obstacle to speed. To counteract this, Zipp has applied its Total System Efficiency design philosophy specifically to the challenges of gravel.

Typical tire widths for gravel racing are between 38 and 50 mm with different tread patterns. Current gravel wheels have an outer rim width of 28-30 mm, which leads to an aerodynamic mismatch when using a 40 mm+ gravel tire. With the narrower rim and wider tire, the rim-to-tire transition resembles the bulge of a light bulb rather than the ideal, seamless cross-section of a wing. According to Zipp tests, the efficient combination of wheel and gravel tire of the 303 XPLR S design offers an aerodynamic advantage of 5 watts over a leading competitor.

Note: This wheelset is optimized for use with the Goodyear XPLR Slick and Goodyear XPLR Inter, both tires developed in collaboration with Zipp.
