Details about the Garmin fenix 8 Pro AMOLED Sapphire GPS Smartwatch

  • Exclusive Design: The fēnix® 8’s premium design is built to handle anything. It’s dive-ready, features waterproof buttons, a metal sensor guard, and a bright 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen with scratch-resistant sapphire glass and a titanium bezel. The smartwatch has been tested to U.S. military standards for thermal performance, shock resistance, and waterproofness.
  • SOS and Garmin Response℠ Center: The fēnix® 8 Pro is Garmin’s first smartwatch with inReach technology for satellite and LTE connectivity, so you can enjoy your adventures with greater peace of mind. Need help? Trigger an interactive SOS emergency call and receive assistance in an emergency from the 24/7 Garmin Response Center for emergency coordination.
  • DLC: Diamond Like Carbon is a carbon coating that protects the watch’s surface from scratches and abrasion. It increases durability while helping to preserve the watch’s premium look over the long term.
  • Satellite Messaging: When you’re out in remote areas—including up to 80 kilometers offshore—you can use the smartwatch’s inReach technology to send messages and receive location check-ins once a satellite connection is established. No smartphone connection is required.
  • LTE Connection: Running ? Or a swim? Just leave your smartphone at home and use your smartwatch’s LTE connection to send messages and make voice calls. Plus, friends can track your location via LiveTrack™ and location check-ins—all through the Garmin Messenger™ app. You can even check weather conditions and forecasts.
  • Phone Calls and Voice Assistant: Use the LTE connection to make calls directly from your smartwatch without carrying your smartphone. You can also control watch functions with voice commands, even without your smartphone. Or use your smartphone’s voice assistant to reply to text messages, for example.
  • Dynamic RoundTrip Routing: View terrain contours on TopoActive maps and access preloaded maps for golf courses and ski slopes around the world. With dynamic RoundTrip Routing, enter your desired distance and receive route suggestions from your smartwatch to ensure you return to the starting point on time.
  • Voice Calls Without a Smartphone: When an LTE connection is available, you can make and receive voice calls with other users of the Garmin Messenger app via the Messenger Calls app on your smartwatch. You don’t need your smartphone for this.
  • Send messages on the go: Using a satellite or LTE connection, you can share messages with other users of the Garmin Messenger app directly from your smartwatch. The app automatically syncs your contacts when the smartwatch is paired with your smartphone.
  • No need to switch carriers: You activate your subscription through Garmin, not your mobile carrier, so you can seamlessly access inReach services via your smartwatch connection.
  • Save battery life: The fēnix® 8 Pro uses an LTE-M network that consumes less power and conserves the smartwatch’s rechargeable battery. This lets you enjoy your adventures longer.
  • LiveTrack: The LTE connection lets friends track your adventures—simply share your location via LiveTrack using the Garmin Messenger app on your smartphone. The app also lets you notify your friends when you’ve started a LiveTrack session. Then they can follow your activity or contact you while you’re on the go.
  • Weather Forecasts: Access current weather conditions and multi-day forecasts via LTE so you’re prepared for what lies ahead.
  • Location Check-Ins: You can initiate location updates via satellite or LTE and send them to family and friends to keep them informed throughout your travels and adventures.
  • Estimated Finish Time: Get information on your potential finish time for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon.
  • PacePro™: Plan your race-day strategy with GPS-based pace guidance for a specific route or distance.
  • ClimbPro—Manage Climbs Effectively: View real-time information about current and upcoming climbs on downloaded routes.
  • Grade-Adjusted Pace: Find out what your running pace would be if you were running on flat ground or an incline with the same effort.
  • Training Readiness: Get a training readiness score right after waking up, based on sleep quality, recovery, training load, and more. You’ll know right away whether you can train hard today or should take it a bit easier.
  • Training Status: Get insights to know whether you’re building up your fitness, in peak condition, or fatigued.
  • Physiological Metrics: Assess your performance using advanced training metrics such as VO2max, training load, and much more.
  • Endurance Score: This feature measures your ability to sustain prolonged exertion, so you can see how your athletic activities affect your overall endurance.
  • Hill Score: The Hill Score shows your progress in uphill running, based on your training history and your VO2max. It also calculates a score for your ability to run steep inclines and for your running endurance on long climbs.
  • Daily Training Recommendations: View daily training recommendations for the entire week. The recommendations are adjusted after each running or cycling session.
  • Recovery Time: Find out how long you should recover before your next intense workout. Your most recent workout is the key factor here.
  • Running Economy: Running Economy measures how efficiently you run. In addition to speed, heart rate, and the proven Running Dynamics metrics, the calculation also includes the speed loss metric (HRM 600 required). The lower the value, the more energy-efficient your running form is.
  • Speed Loss on Ground Contact: The speed loss on ground contact metric measures the deceleration when your foot strikes the ground. Good runners lose little speed and can quickly convert the motion back into forward movement (optional HRM 600 required).
  • Running Tolerance: Running Tolerance assesses the biomechanical stress placed on your body while running. Especially when running downhill, the musculoskeletal system—i.e., bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments—is subjected to significant strain. Running Tolerance evaluates this stress and thus helps you avoid overexertion.
  • Competition Time Prediction: The competition time prediction shows you what time and pace you could achieve in a competition if you continue training until the specified competition date.
  • Automatic Finish Line: When you follow a saved route during a competition, your smartwatch recognizes the pre-set finish line and automatically stops your activity.
  • Running Dynamics on Your Wrist: View key running efficiency metrics, including cadence, stride length, ground contact time, and more.
  • Auto Lap® Based on Route: When following a route, the smartwatch uses the route data to detect when you’ve completed a kilometer. Unlike the GPS-based Auto Lap®, this round is set based on the route information.
  • Adaptive Garmin Coach Training Plans: Prepare for your next competition, train for a milestone, or simply improve your fitness with adaptive or pre-built Garmin Coach training plans for running, triathlons, cycling, or strength training. Selected plans are even adjusted daily based on performance, recovery, and health data to provide you with personalized workouts.
  • Track Every Activity: Use preloaded activity profiles to get data and insights based on your activities. You can even track team sports, such as soccer, football, racquet sports, and more.
  • Diving features: Your smartwatch supports recreational diving (single gas) and freediving for dives up to 40 meters deep, thanks to official diving certification and waterproof, inductive buttons.
  • Triathlon and Multisport Apps: Automatically track splits with built-in profiles for triathlons, duathlons, cross-training, and SwimRuns, or create your own.
  • Workouts: Download free HIIT, strength training, cardio, yoga, Pilates, and mobility workouts to add variety to your training.
  • Animated workouts: Follow animated cardio, strength, yoga, and Pilates workouts on the smartwatch display.
  • Ski touring and splitboard touring: Automaticallytrack ascents and descents, and record how much time you spent between runs.
  • Built-in Surf App: Track the waves you’ve surfed, your maximum speed, the distance traveled, and much more. Use Surfline Sessions™ technology to record videos of the waves you ride in front of a Surfline® camera.
  • mtb Dynamics: Track the details of your ride with specialized Grit® and Flow™ metrics.
  • Outdoor Maps+: Subscribe to Outdoor Maps+ to get premium map content, including satellite imagery and optimized topographic maps, downloaded directly to your smartwatch.
  • Garmin Trails: Access thousands of trails and send them directly to your compatible smartwatch for offline use—with a subscription to Garmin Connect+ in the Garmin Connect™ app or to Outdoor Maps+ in the Garmin Explore™ app. Available in select regions.
  • SatIQ™ technology: Get highly accurate track recording through multi-frequency reception of global satellite systems. SatIQ™ dynamically adjusts the mode to achieve optimal positioning and conserve the rechargeable battery.
  • Dynamic RoundTrip Routing: Enter your desired distance and get route suggestions that take you back to your starting point. If you stray from the route, the smartwatch recalculates a new route so you can cover the desired distance.
  • ABC Sensors: Navigate your next trail adventure with an altimeter, barometer, and electronic 3-axis compass.
  • International TopoActive Maps: TopoActive maps from around the world ensure you stay on the right path during your exploration trips. Download additional maps via Wi-Fi.
  • NextFork™ Map Hints: While navigating, a quick glance is all it takes to see the distance to the next fork and the name of the trail.
  • POIs Along the Route: Get clear information during competitions for specific POIs along your route, such as aid stations.
  • Turn-by-turn directions: In the Garmin Connect™ app, you can create routes or find existing ones. Alternatively, you can sync routes from your favorite third-party platforms and receive turn-by-turn directions.
  • SkiView™ Maps: View the names of ski runs and see difficulty ratings for more than 2,000 preloaded ski resorts worldwide.

FIT / OUT Software Update 2025

Update your Garmin smartwatch automatically via the Garmin Connect app. Note that the “automatic updates” feature must be enabled on your smartwatch for this to work.

  • Strength Training for Garmin Run & Cycling Coach: Want to round out your running or cycling workouts with additional strength training? If you’re following a Garmin Run or Cycling Coach, you can now add complementary strength training sessions. Choose between bodyweight strength training or gym-based workouts.
  • Passcode Protection: Protect your sensitive data with a passcode and ensure that no one else can access your stored data. The smartwatch automatically detects when it has been removed from your wrist and prompts you to enter the code to continue using it.
  • Optimized Keyboard Operation: The improved keyboard offers easier and more efficient use. This allows you to reply to messages faster and enter data or entries more easily. The improved keyboard includes a QWERTY layout, auto-correction, text prediction, and a multi-key option.
  • Body Battery / TrueUp: If you use multiple Garmin smartwatches that support the Body Battery feature, the Body Battery value was not previously synced via Physio TrueUp. This is now possible with the latest software update.
  • Health Status on the Device & in the Garmin Connect™ App: Get an overview of whether your health metrics—such as HRV, heart rate, skin temperature, and Pulse Ox during sleep—are within your usual range or deviating from it. The latter may indicate additional stress, which could be related to changes caused by physical activity, your environment, alcohol consumption, illness, and more. This feature is initially available as a BETA version.
