Edelrid Ohm II Rappel Device - oasis-night

Description

Edelrid Ohm II Rappel Device - oasis-night

The new OHM for climbers with a large weight difference

The 2nd generation of the innovative and successful OHM comes with some updates for easier operation. The pre-braking resistor to increase the braking effect for rope teams with a large weight difference has a swivel joint that gives the device more freedom of movement. When attaching the device to the first hook, the direction of attachment no longer plays a role. The closure system prevents accidental opening of the device and makes it much easier to insert the rope and remove the device when lowering.

Features of the Edelrid Ohm II rappel device

  • Significantly lower forces act on the belayer
  • Lowering a heavier person is much easier to control
  • Is installed in the first hook of the belay chain
  • In the event of a fall into the first hook, the device reduces the risk of collision
  • No restriction on handling when leading (no rope friction when paying out rope)
  • "Makes the belayer 25 kg heavier"
  • Minimum weight of belayer: 40 kg
  • For single ropes with a diameter of 8.9 - 11.0 mm
  • Material: aluminum, steel, polyamide, LDPE
  • Supplied without carabiner

The OHM: The solution for weight differences in climbing partnerships

When developing the OHM, Edelrid sought support from scientific research at the IFT Stuttgart. The Ohm is an upstream resistor that is hooked into the first hook of the belay chain. In the event of a fall, the rope is pulled into the braking unit of the device and the fall is progressively slowed down. The device does not stop the rope abruptly, but slows down its running speed so that the fall can be dynamically arrested by the person belaying. The OHM therefore increases the friction in the belay chain, regardless of the belay device used. As a result, the belayer has to apply significantly less manual force to the brake rope and is not pulled upwards or against the wall in an uncontrolled manner.

Thanks to its design, the OHM does not restrict the handling of the rope in any way when leading. It does not increase friction in the lead, nor does it have a negative effect on rope payout. The braking effect of the device is only activated in the event of a fall. Lowering a heavy person is also much easier to control due to the increased friction. Accidents during lowering can thus be avoided.

The person belaying is no longer pulled uncontrollably against the wall. The person climbing can reach the limit of their fall without having to worry that their partner may not be able to hold them or that the landing will be very hard.
