The Entry-Level Winter Tire with Spikes

The Schwalbe MOTION Spike is the right bicycle tire for anyone who wants to ride reliably and purposefully even in winter conditions. With up to 120 spikes (for a 28-inch tire diameter), it offers good control on slippery and snow-covered paths. It’s suitable for occasional commuting or touring in moderate winter conditions. 

Optimal Grip with Winter Compound | Like all Schwalbe winter tires, the MOTION Spike features a specially developed winter compound. The rubber compound remains flexible even in freezing temperatures and provides reliable grip on slippery surfaces. This means you can ride with confidence even in the depths of winter.

Tire Tuning with the Right Air Pressure | To get the most out of your Schwalbe MOTION Spike with spikes, you should always ensure the correct air pressure. In dry conditions, you can increase the tire pressure slightly so the tires roll faster on paved paths. In wet, snowy, or icy conditions, you should reduce the tire pressure slightly to improve traction. Always pay attention to the maximum and minimum pressures marked on the tire sidewall. Grippy tread design with sipes | Each lug on the Schwalbe MOTION Spike features a siped tread pattern. The sipes provide additional grip, especially when cornering and when braking. At the same time, the tread design ensures good self-cleaning performance in (snowy) slush. This way, you can enjoy complete safety on wet or snow-covered roads.

Properly breaking in the spikes | To ensure your Schwalbe MOTION Spike accompanies you for many thousands of kilometers on asphalt as well as through ice and snow, you should definitely break it in properly—just as you would with any other Schwalbe tire featuring spikes. Break in the tires for about 40 kilometers on the road, avoiding sudden braking maneuvers and hard acceleration during this time. Afterward, the spikes will be more securely embedded and provide lasting, safe traction. If you do happen to lose any spikes, you can easily replace them. 

Visibility | The MOTION Spike is equipped with reflective strips on the sides. This provides additional visibility in the dark and in poor visibility conditions and improves your safety on the road. According to the StVZO, the reflective strips even replace the classic spoke reflectors.
