Description

Fulcrum Soniq GR Wheelset - 28" | Carbon | Clincher | Centerlock - 12x100mm | 12x142mm - Sram XDR

Soniq is engineered for speed, built for adventure.

The Soniq GR was developed for riders who value speed, control, and reliability on gravel routes. Drawing on insights from race data and experience from international gravel competitions, we’ve created a wheelset that masters challenging terrain with high efficiency and precise handling.

At the heart of the design is the innovative 2-Wave rim with a 30 mm rim width and Mini-Hook. When paired with modern, wide gravel tires, it improves tire shape, increases the contact patch, and enhances stability. The variable rim profile with a 47/52 mm height optimizes aerodynamics, reduces sensitivity to crosswinds, and promotes efficient riding performance.

The rim, made of high-quality FF80 carbon fiber, offers a balanced combination of low weight, durability, and riding comfort. Sealed industrial bearings with adjustable play and durable round spokes round out the design. The result is a versatile gravel wheelset that optimally supports modern tire widths from 47 to 50 mm and performs exceptionally well on a wide variety of terrain.

While the DRSC™ system (Directional Rim-Spoke Coupling) ensures a stiffer connection between the rim and the spokes, it Anti-Rotation System™ in turn fuses the hub body and spokes into a more robust unit. Thanks to the MoMag™ assembly process, the rim base requires no holes. On the one hand, this has the advantage of not damaging the structure of the carbon fibers; on the other hand, it enables uniform stiffness and higher impact resistance across the entire surface. Furthermore, this construction method is what allows the rim to operate tubeless without requiring a rim tape.

Butted stainless-steel spokes with self-locking aluminum nipples guarantee long-lasting, consistent performance and durability of the wheelsets. Twenty-four pieces of spoke hardware are used for each wheel, in accordance with the Two-to-One™ design for the front wheel and rear wheel. With this system, twice as many spokes are used in the areas subject to greater mechanical stress to counteract energy loss and torsion. For the front wheel, this means 16 spokes on the brake disc side and 8 spokes on the drive side. For the rear wheel, the configuration is exactly the opposite. The spokes are perfectly aligned between the hub and the rim and never touch each other (Non-Touching Spokes) to improve performance and extend the wheelset’s lifespan.

Full Carbon Technology | To manufacture its full-carbon rims, Fulcrum uses laboratory-tested combinations of different fiber types, including not only unidirectional fibers but also the well-known 3K variant with a 90° structure, which distinguishes its top-of-the-line models. A special HTG resin (High Transition Grade) was developed for their production, which, thanks to a glass transition temperature at higher temperatures, enables unparalleled braking performance. The sophistication of the carbon construction is also evident in the finish. Since the mold already incorporates the pre-drilled holes for the nipples, no post-processing or polishing is necessary to achieve an aesthetically flawless product.

DRSC™ (Directionated Rim-Spoke Coupling) | The patented system—as simple as it is effective—uses special plastic reinforcements integrated into the carbon at the nipple seats. These not only improve stiffness and durability but also distribute the load on the nipple more evenly across the entire surface and prevent potential galvanic corrosion.

Axial Fixing System™ | The Axial Fixing System™ is the solution developed by Fulcrum® for mounting the disc brake to the hub. The larger size of the release mechanism, compared to conventional standard designs, achieves greater structural stiffness, resulting in more precise and powerful braking performance.

Two-to-One™ (2:1) | With its "2:1 Two-to-One™ Spoke Ratio" patent, Fulcrum solves a classic problem in cycling. By using double the number of spokes in critical areas, it compensates for the energy loss caused by the rotation of the cassette under full load, which results in spoke give at the freewheel and a corresponding loss of tension in the rim. Since two spokes effectively take on the role of one, wheel flex is reduced and power transfer becomes significantly more efficient. The improved balance of spoke tension also enhances the fatigue resistance of the rim, hub, and spokes.

MoMag™ | A magnet and a great deal of expertise. With the simple yet ingenious “Mounting Magnet” system, wheels can be built that require no holes in the upper rim flange yet can still be laced using conventional nipples. The nipples are inserted through the valve hole and then “guided” by a magnet to the point of connection with the rim. No holes in the rim bed mean a consistently uniform rim without critical points or weak spots. With Clincher profiles, no rim tape is required, which in turn has a positive effect on weight. The advantages are numerous: longer durability and greater fatigue strength, as well as higher stiffness and acceleration.

Differentiated Rim Height | Two different rim heights between the front and rear: a more complex solution from a design perspective, but one that is necessary when striving for optimal performance. The lower front section is designed to enhance handling and minimizes weight—and thus the corresponding mass—as much as possible during steering maneuvers and acceleration. At the rear, a taller and stiffer rim transfers the full force to the wheel and increases stability.
