The History of Fulcrum Wheelsets – Passion & Development From Italy

Fulcrum wheels come from Vicenza in northern Italy. The company was founded in 2004 and has since established itself as a specialist for high-end wheelsets. From road bikes to gravel and mountain bikes, they cover all cycling disciplines.

From aluminum to carbon, Fulcrum stands for lightweight, reliable and high-quality wheelsets that meet your exact requirements. Whether single spoke pattern, ceramic bearings or tubeless compatibility, road bike, gravel bike or MTB – Fulcrum is always looking for innovative solutions to ensure minimum rolling resistance and maximum riding pleasure. The wheel specialists from Vicenza benefit from their long-standing roots in cycling.

Fulcrum has a guiding principle: they want to build the best wheels that can be implemented with modern technologies. The in-house development team in Italy works on this. This philosophy is brought to life by the employees' passion for bike riding. During every lunch break and after work, most Fulcrum employees can't wait to get on their bikes themselves! These "real life" tests are extremely important to Fulcrum. For this reason, many professional teams and athletes are supported. Their suggestions and ideas as well as comments from customers and employees flow into the development of new Fulcrum wheels.

Fulcrum Wheels – What Types Are There?

For road bikes, there are affordable all-round wheelsets or real specialists. These include, for example, the aerodynamically optimized Wind 75 DB road bike wheelset. In the mountain bike sector, Fulcrum offers lightweight cross country wheels. Or you can opt for a robust enduro wheel from Fulcrum. Whether 27.5 inch (650 B) or 29 inch – Fulcrum covers all current wheel sizes. Gravel wheels and wheels for electric bikes are new additions to the product range. These are extremely robust and available for mountain bikes as well as for the new E-Road and E-Gravel bikes.
In addition to the different disciplines, Fulcrum wheels cover all possible installation dimensions and freehub bodies. For example, there are Fulcrum quick release conversion kits. You are also flexible when it comes to Fulcrum freewheels: whether HG11, XD Drive or N3W Standard – the choice is yours.

The Fulcrum Nipforce Technology in the Redzone Fulcrum Wheelset

Behind the NipForce technology lies the asymmetrical geometry of the Fulcrum rims. What sounds simple is actually a key technology of the Fulcrum wheels. Thanks to the asymmetrical spoke arrangement, loads are optimally distributed to each individual spoke. This results in a remarkably homogeneous ride feel and ensures maximum reliability and stability. This technology is particularly important for a Fulcrum Disc wheelset.

Fulcrum Technologies for Every Cycling Discipline

From the Fulcrum Racing wheels for road bikes to gravel bikes and mountain bikes – each discipline has its own requirements for a wheelset. Fulcrum has the right solution for every category. None of them are off the shelf. A look at the list of Fulcrum technologies proves that they have thought about every last detail. Fulcrum road bike hubs, for example, are equipped with extremely smooth-running ceramic bearings. Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology, or CULT, is what Fulcrum calls it. For mountain bikes, stiffness and stability are the most important factors. This is ensured by Cup & Cone technology. The layers are positioned at a special angle for better force distribution. These are just two examples of technologies that Fulcrum has developed precisely according to the requirements of the respective discipline.

Of course, many Fulcrum innovations work across categories. These include asymmetric rims, two-to-one spoke positioning and 2Way-Fit technology. The latter means that Fulcrum wheels work optimally with tubeless tires as well as with a tube setup. There are also special technologies for Fulcrum carbon wheels and those that have been optimized for Fulcrum aluminium wheels.

Product Highlight: Red Zone Carbon Mountain Bike Wheelset

The brand new Fulcrum carbon wheels were specially developed for cross country to downcountry use. It comes in a cool matt design, is super light (just 1,445 g) and rolls extremely smoothly. The high quality is guaranteed by purely European production – most parts of the Fulcrum wheelsets come from Italy. By the way, this is a great approach to sustainability!

The Fulcrum Quality Promise

As mentioned at the beginning: Fulcrum has set itself the goal of building the best possible wheels. In order to live up to this quality claim, every Fulcrum wheel is provided with a small sticker. On it, you will find a serial number and a QR code. In this way, every single wheel that leaves the production can be tracked. Nothing is left to chance. You are on the absolutely safe side if there are any problems in a production batch. In this way, every component of a Fulcrum wheelset is traceable and can be exchanged for Fulcrum spare parts if necessary.
