Xenofit Competition was developed specifically for longer endurance sessions—a beverage powder for preparing a carbohydrate-electrolyte drink. In general, carbohydrate-electrolyte drinks are absorbed by the body more quickly than plain water. During prolonged exercise lasting several hours, the body’s own carbohydrate stores (i.e., glycogen stores) in the working muscles are insufficient to provide energy. During exercise, a balanced mixture of blood-sugar-stabilizing carbohydrates is necessary to maintain endurance performance. Xenofit Competition provides not only short-chain, rapidly available sugars such as fructose, glucose, and sucrose (mono- and disaccharides), but also the longer-chain maltodextrin (oligosaccharide), which is its main component. Xenofit Competition ensures rapid absorption of fluids into the bloodstream due to its optimized composition of carbohydrates (approx. 78 g/liter) combined with sodium (700 mg/liter). It also contains B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, niacin, pantothenic acid) necessary for carbohydrate and energy metabolism, as well as the mineral magnesium and vitamin C.

Carbohydrate solutions help improve physical performance during intense and prolonged physical activity in trained adults. The key to performance-maintaining rehydration is the specific amount of carbohydrates and sodium, as well as the so-called osmolarity (particle concentration). Very intense and/or very long periods of physical exertion lead to a reduction in glycogen stores (carbohydrate reserves) in the skeletal muscles and to muscle fatigue. An optimal carbohydrate intake is crucial for restoring normal muscle function (contraction). This is achieved by consuming a total of 4 g of carbohydrates per kg of body weight from all food sources in individual doses during the first 4 hours and no later than 6 hours after the end of the exhausting exercise.

Usage

For optimal replenishment, at least 42 g (≙ approx. 500 ml of ready-to-drink solution) of carbohydrates per hour of physical exertion should be consumed in small sips.
