Assegai – Built To Go Fast. Everywhere.
The signature model of Downhill pro Greg Minnaar is not only the result of more than 30 years of racing experience, it also incorporates over 50 years of tire manufacturing expertise. Named after the hunting spear of the Zulu, based in the South African home of the top athlete, the Assegai drills its way into any terrain with its unyielding, but nevertheless always predictable traction. The Gravity all-rounder cuts a particularly fine figure on the front wheel of bikes with more than 150 mm suspension travel. But even as a rear tire, the Assgeai always provides a sure-footed riding experience.
Features of the Maxxis Assegai folding tire
- Dual Compound rubber compound
- Tubeless Ready carcass with EXO sidewall protection
- Wide Trail (WT) construction adapted to wide rims
Dual Compound | Two different rubber compounds are processed into one tread strip. The characteristics of each compound and their arrangement are determined according to the desired properties of the tire. Different Dual Compounds are used depending on the tire category. For example, the compounds of Gravel and Downhill tires differ considerably.
EXO Protection | This extremely cut- and abrasion-resistant material protects the sidewall of various MTB and Gravel models. It is very densely woven, but nevertheless extremely light and flexible to ensure that the tires continue to perform well and convincingly.
Tubeless Ready (TR) | Tubeless tires have many advantages. Riding with less air pressure improves traction and rolling resistance is also lower than with inner tubes. In addition, the risk of punctures is significantly reduced by using a sealant instead of an inner tube, as small holes are immediately sealed again.
Wide Trail (WT) | Traditional tires were developed for narrow rims, which is why they are too angular on wide rims and can therefore no longer offer optimum performance. In contrast, the Wide Trail design from Maxxis relies on a tread layout and a tire shape that is tailored to modern rims. WT tires are optimized for 30 mm rims, but also demonstrate their advantages perfectly with an inner rim width of up to 39 mm.
Note: Tubeless Ready tires require tubeless compatible rims/wheels, tubeless valves, tubeless rim tape and sealing fluid for tubeless mounting. Sealant fluid is not required for tubeless UST tires, but is recommended for increased puncture protection. Installation should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
