Description

6d Sports Nutrition Sodium Bicarbonate - Food Supplement - 120 capsules

Sodium bicarbonate is an alkaline (= "anti-acid") salt which, when taken in high doses, leads to an increase in the concentration of bicarbonate (HCO3-) in the body. This makes the blood alkaline, i.e. less acidic. This also stimulates the transport of lactate from the muscle cells. Numerous scientific studies have shown that the oral intake of high doses of sodium bicarbonate can improve performance during short periods of maximum exertion lasting between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. This is very relevant, for example, in competitive swimming, sprints and middle-distance runs in athletics and cycling sprints on the track, but also in rowing or kayaking. This also applies when such short maximum loads are performed as part of endurance training. In addition, it has been shown that taking sodium bicarbonate orally after a short maximum load can accelerate the restoration of the acid balance in the body. This in turn can promote performance during a subsequent short period of maximum exertion. This is the case, for example, in successive judo matches on a competition day, several rounds of boxing or the various disciplines of a multi-discipline event in track cycling.

Details about 6d Sodium Bicarbonate

During short periods of maximum exertion, the muscles mainly use sugar as an energy source. This converts muscle glycogen into lactic acid, which in turn breaks down into lactate and protons (H+). The protons formed in this process cause hyperacidity, especially in the muscles. This is one of the main causes of exhaustion resulting from short (30 seconds to 5 minutes) maximum exertion. However, the body has its own protective mechanism in the form of so-called "buffers". The more buffer reserves are available in the body, the so-called "buffer capacity", the more lactic acid can be produced during exertion without over-acidification occurring. Acidosis only occurs when the level of proton production exceeds the buffer capacity: The protons produced are then no longer "buffered", which increases the acidity in the muscles and blood. This can even lead to severe nausea. The body's buffering capacity can be increased through exercise, and presumably also through altitude training. Another popular strategy to increase the buffering capacity of the blood and thus better protect the body from acidosis is to take additional sodium bicarbonate before a so-called "anaerobic" workout.

In the "classic" intake plan, 0.3 to 0.4 grams of sodium bicarbonate per kg of body weight are taken 1 to 2 hours before the planned short maximum exercise. For people with a body weight of 60 to 80 kg, this corresponds to a dose of 18 to 32 grams. However, due to the excessive intake of salt (sodium), this method is often associated with severe gastrointestinal complaints, especially diarrhea. However, recent studies show that these symptoms can be reduced if sodium bicarbonate is taken some time before exercise and over a longer period of time.

How to use

The recommended total dose is 0.3-0.4 grams 6d sodium bicarbonate per kg body weight. This corresponds to 16 (0.3 g/kg for a body weight of 60 kg) to 28 (0.4 g/kg, for a body weight of 80 kg) capsules within 2 to 8 hours before the start of exercise. If you have no or hardly any gastrointestinal complaints, you can stick to the "classic" intake schedule. Take all capsules within the last 90 to 120 minutes before the start of the competition. If, on the other hand, you are prone to gastrointestinal complaints, then take the capsules spread over 6 to 8 hours: Take most of the capsules with your meal(s) (5-10 capsules) and smaller doses (2-3 capsules) in between, with a snack in between if necessary. Due to the very high concentration of sodium in 6d Sodium Bicarbonate, there is a very high risk of gastrointestinal discomfort when taking it. To reduce this risk, it is recommended to always take the capsules together with sufficient water. However, bear in mind that taking sodium and water together in high doses can increase your body weight, which in turn can have a negative effect on certain performance.

Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the stated recommended intake. Keep out of the reach of small children. Store in a cool and dry place.
