Shimano 105 ST-R7120 Brake/Shift Lever

With the mechanical 12-speed components of the 105 series, Shimano offers a shifting system for a wide variety of road cyclists. The ST-R7120 shift/brake levers not only feature the series’ signature fast and intuitive shifting quality, but also impress on an ergonomic level thanks to improved grip and optimized comfort features.

A wide-based evaluation of a wide variety of hand shapes and sizes has resulted in a modified grip positioning and a redesigned brake lever and clamp design. These adjustments have reduced the distance between the grip body and the brake lever, which in turn improves leverage and provides greater control with less effort. In addition, the brake/shift lever for 2x12-speed drivetrains is adjustable in grip width (Reach).

Shimano 105 BR-R7170 Disc Brake Caliper

Thanks to the natural braking feel of the hydraulic Shimano BR-R7170 brakes, riders can push their limits even further. While their flat profile makes the Flatmount disc brake calipers ideal for use on road bikes, a pad size that is 10% larger than the previous model reduces the risk of unwanted brake friction and grinding rotors. This reduces overall noise during deceleration without compromising brake performance. On the contrary, the BR-R7170 calipers engage not only quickly but also reliably.

Dual Control Lever (DCL) | The Shimano DCL levers combine brake and shifting functions into a single control unit to enable simple and comfortable operation. When raising the performance standard, their innovative ergonomics are even more important than adding additional gear ratios. The highlight of the STI shift levers (Shimano Total Integration), however, is the ability to shift gears front and rear with just one finger. The Dual Control levers owe this not only to their extremely precise and smooth operation but also to the same stability for which Shimano’s mtb technologies are already known.

J-Kit (Easy Hose Joint System) | On brake systems with an J-Kit brake hose connection, the brake lever features an integrated compression seal (olive), which significantly simplifies the installation and removal of the brake hose.

Ice Technologies | To maintain consistently high braking performance during prolonged, uninterrupted use, Shimano has developed the " Ice-Tech " cooling technology for rotors and brake pads. Brake pads featuring " Ice Technologies " have aluminum cooling fins that dissipate heat more effectively. In combination with the rotor’s optimized heat dissipation properties, this results in longer pad life while minimizing brake noise and fading.
