What mountain bike accessories do I need?
Mountain bikes take a beating – so they need specific accessories for maintenance, quick repairs, and trail use:
- Tubeless repair kits: Quickly seal small punctures while riding using plugs inserted with a special tool.
- Multitool: A compact multitool includes the main hex and Torx keys, and many models also feature a chain tool.
- Chain wear gauge: Shows when it’s time to replace your chain before the cassette and chainrings are damaged.
- Work stand: Makes it much easier to adjust gears, bleed brakes, or service wheels when the bike is securely clamped.
- Backpack with hydration reservoir: Full-suspension bikes often lack space in the frame triangle. A pack with a hydration bladder keeps fluids accessible and offers space for tools, spares, or a wind jacket.
- Bikepacking bags: Frame, saddle, and handlebar bags attach directly to the frame, distributing the load evenly.
