The Continental Kryptotal is the all-rounder in Continental’s Gravity range, built for the conditions you’ll encounter on most descents: changing terrain that can be dry and dusty one moment, damp and rooty the next. Its medium-height tread digs in under braking, while pronounced shoulder knobs hold your line through berms.
The range is designed to run as a pair: the Kryptotal Fr up front for cornering grip and the Kryptotal Re at the rear for power transfer. Three casings and three compounds cover everything from after-work trail rides to days in the bike park. For trail, Continental Kryptotal enduro or downhill, there’s a Kryptotal setup to match.
Why choose Continental Kryptotal tires?
The right tire gives you confidence on steep sections. On the Kryptotal, tread, casing and compound work together. Three reasons to choose it:
- Purpose-built tread patterns: Fr and Re are specifically designed for the demands of the front and rear wheel.
- Dialed-in options: Three casings and three compounds let you choose the setup that fits your riding.
- Wide selection: Find Fr and Re tires in a range of sizes and configurations at BIKE24.
Continental Kryptotal tires at a glance
Your choice comes down to three things: wheel position, casing and compound. We carry both tread patterns in 20, 24, 26, 27.5 and 29 inches. The 2.60-inch width is available for selected 27.5- and 29-inch tires. If you spend plenty of time climbing, choose the lightweight Trail casing. For bike park riding, puncture protection takes priority.
Continental Kryptotal Fr for the front wheel
The Kryptotal Fr goes up front and gets to work when you lean the bike over. Its tread is designed around front-wheel demands such as tracking stability and agility. Choose from Trail, Enduro and Downhill casings with Endurance, Soft and SuperSoft compounds.
Continental Kryptotal Re for the rear wheel
The Kryptotal Re puts your power to the ground. Its tread is designed for rear-wheel braking, traction and tracking stability. It’s available in Trail, Enduro and Downhill casings, plus smaller sizes for kids’ mountain bikes.
Continental Kryptotal technologies
Continental builds its Gravity tires around a modular system: the same tread pattern paired with different casings and compounds. This keeps the handling familiar while letting you tailor durability and grip to your riding. Understanding the options makes it easier to find the right setup.
Continental Kryptotal casings
The casing is the fabric structure beneath the tread and determines puncture protection and stability. Trail uses a lightweight single-ply construction for classic trail riding. Enduro also uses a single-ply construction, adding Apex reinforcement at the sidewall to protect against snakebites. Downhill is the most robust casing in the Gravity range and comes into its own for lift- and shuttle-assisted riding.
Continental Kryptotal compounds
The compound determines how strongly the rubber grips the ground and how long it lasts. Endurance balances grip and durability, rolls efficiently and wears slowly, making it a solid choice for putting in plenty of trail miles. Soft targets descending-focused trail and enduro riding, combining high grip with reasonable rolling resistance. SuperSoft is made for downhill and puts maximum focus on grip.
Tubeless Ready Continental Kryptotal tires
All Kryptotal tires feature Tubeless Ready construction. Instead of an inner tube, tire sealant inside the tire seals small punctures, while the shaped tubeless bead keeps the tire securely seated on the rim. This lets you run lower pressures off-road and reduces the risk of pinch flats caused by inner tubes. Just make sure you use compatible tire sealant.

Frequently asked questions about Continental Kryptotal tires
What Continental Kryptotal sizes are available at BIKE24?
We carry Fr and Re tires in 27.5 and 29 inches, with 2.40- and 2.60-inch widths, plus 26 x 2.40, 20 x 2.40 and 24 x 2.40-inch sizes for kids’ mountain bikes. Not every casing and compound combination is available in every size.
Do I need to use Kryptotal Fr and Re as a pair?
Both tires work individually, but they’re designed to complement each other. The Fr provides front-wheel control, while the Re delivers rear-wheel traction. Many riders run a softer compound up front and a harder compound at the rear to extend rear-tire life.
Is the Continental Kryptotal approved for e-MTBs?
The Continental Kryptotal carries the E25 designation and is designed for e-bikes with assistance up to 25 km/h. Trail, Enduro and Downhill casings are available for e-MTBs depending on how and where you ride.
