Continental Contact Plus
Discover Continental Contact Plus tires at BIKE24
Continental Contact Plus tires deliver high puncture protection for everyday riding and long tours. They're built for daily commutes, loaded rides and putting in miles on your e-bike. Picture a ride over a freshly graveled bike path, followed by cobblestones and a dirt road to the lake – that's exactly the kind of mix this tire family is made for. It builds on the classic Continental Contact line with a more robust construction and ECE-R75 certification for S-pedelecs. You'll find three options: the versatile Contact Plus, the city-focused Contact Plus City and the eCONTACT Plus for modern e-bikes and cargo bikes.
Why choose the Contact Plus for everyday riding
This series is built to put in the miles, not chase personal bests. Three features make the difference.
- Puncture protection: Reinforced breaker helps protect against sharp gravel and glass
- E-bike approval: E50 designation for use on S-pedelecs
- Visibility: Reflective sidewall strip for greater visibility in the dark
Continental Contact Plus tires at a glance
The right tire depends on where you ride. For a mix of asphalt and forest trails, choose the standard Contact Plus. If you stick to city streets, the City version is the better fit. For powerful motors and heavy loads, there's the eCONTACT Plus. All three are clincher tires, with sizes from 20 to 28 inches available in the BIKE24 range.
Contact Plus – the all-rounder
The Contact Plus is the all-round tire in the series. Its uniform tread rolls smoothly on asphalt while providing reliable grip on loose surfaces. We carry widths from 1.50 to 1.75 inches for 26- and 28-inch wheels. It's a solid choice for trekking bikes, touring bikes and pedelecs.
Contact Plus City for urban riding
The Contact Plus City uses a low-profile urban tread with fine sipes. It's designed for asphalt and efficient rolling. You'll find it in classic city sizes such as 28x1 3/8 and 28x1.75 inches, as well as a high-volume 27.5x2.20-inch size for added comfort.
eCONTACT Plus for e-bikes and cargo bikes
The eCONTACT Plus is the latest evolution of the series and features the SafetyPlus Pro Breaker. Built for heavy loads and powerful drive systems, it maintains predictable handling even with a fully loaded cargo basket. We carry widths from 2.00 to 2.50 inches for 20-, 26-, 27.5- and 28-inch wheels.
Technologies behind puncture protection
The tires differ in both tread pattern and the protective layers underneath. Continental combines its own puncture-protection belt with approval for fast pedelecs. The two work together: the construction protects the tube while keeping rolling resistance low.
SafetyPlus Breaker in the Contact Plus
The SafetyPlus Breaker adds a protective layer between the tread and casing. Continental combines its SafetySystem Breaker with highly flexible rubber to create a cut- and puncture-resistant layer that remains elastic. While rigid protective belts can increase rolling resistance, this material flexes with the tire. For you, that means more range. The Contact Plus and Contact Plus City both use this layer beneath the tread.
SafetyPlus Pro Breaker in the eCONTACT Plus
The eCONTACT Plus takes protection a step further. The SafetyPlus Pro Breaker combines flexible rubber with densely woven PolyX fibers. This construction helps stop punctures and stabilizes the tire under load. That matters when a cargo bike with a child seat leans into a tight turn. Even under heavy loads, the breaker supports controlled cornering.
ECE-R75 and the E50 designation
UN Regulation No. 75 sets requirements for pneumatic tires on category L vehicles. Continental draws on its experience with moped and motorcycle tires to meet these requirements. All tires in the series carry the E50 designation and are approved for S-pedelecs. This becomes particularly important when your bike provides assistance above 25 km/h.

Frequently asked questions about Continental Contact Plus tires
What size Contact Plus tire do I need?
Check the sidewall of your old tire for the key measurement, such as 47-622. The first number indicates the tire width and the second the rim diameter. Keep the second number the same. You have some flexibility with width as long as the tire and rim are compatible and your frame, brakes and fenders provide enough clearance.
Is the Contact Plus available as a folding tire?
The series consists of clincher tires with wire beads. The wire bead helps the tire hold its shape, which is an advantage on heavier bikes and under high loads. For commuter bikes, touring bikes and e-bikes, stability under load matters more than saving a few grams.
Can I use the tire on a bike without a motor?
Yes. Approval for fast pedelecs doesn't mean the tire is limited to motor-assisted bikes. On trekking and city bikes without a motor, you get the same puncture protection and reflective sidewall strip.
