FAZUA Batteries & Motors – All-in-One Drive Systems for Light E-Bikes

The FAZUA [fà]-[zuà]! brand – Bavarian for "Ride on!" – is specialised in innovative e-bike drive systems and concepts for elegant, agile and lightweight e-bikes. From a wooden model turned at his grandfather's workbench to one of the best-known drive systems for electric bicycles - the development of the FAZUA company is more than impressive. In the early 2010s, Johannes Biechele, one of the founders of the drive manufacturer based south of Munich, had the idea of developing his own system for e-bikes. The systems commonly used at the time were too big and too heavy in his opinion. He wanted e-bike motors and batteries to be small, light and yet powerful instead.

An idea that he impressively put into action: In 2013, Biechele founded a start-up company based on a university project. By 2015, the first ready-to-ride prototype had been developed. In 2017, they started series production of the first FAZUA drive. Today, the company, which is part of Porsche eBike Performance GmbH since August 2022, is considered one of the technological market leaders in the field of drives for light e-bikes. 
And the manufacturer has remained true to its original philosophy until today: FAZUA motors are not only characterized by a small, compact design, but are also extremely lightweight. Nevertheless, they deliver enough power for sporty adventures.

The special feature of all FAZUA e-bike motors is the perfect combination of motor and battery in a lightweight DRIVE UNIT. The unit of the Ride 60 combines the motor, gearbox, bottom bracket and sensors. It is light and quiet, but yet powerful and compact - and inspires you with its natural riding feel. The Ride 50 unit offers slightly less power but impresses with its modular concept. This means you can quickly remove the motor, making your mountain bike more agile and nimble, for example. When mounted, the systems are perfectly integrated into the down tube of the bike frame and impress with their elegant appearance and minimal impact on the aesthetics of the bike. Accordingly, the result is e-bikes that look like conventional bicycles.

What makes FAZUA motors so special, however, is not only their esthetics, but also their performance and flexibility. In the top model Ride 60, the total weight of all components is just 4.2 kilograms. Nevertheless, the drive system provides 60 Newton meters of torque and the integrated FAZUA battery delivers a capacity of 430 watt-hours.

In addition, FAZUA batteries and motors are perfect for cyclists who enjoy the comfort of electric assistance, but at the same time want to maintain the natural riding feel of a conventional bike. That is because above a speed of twenty-five kilometers per hour, the motor has a freewheel function, making the bike feel like a normal bike when pedaling.

Thanks to outstanding app control and fast connectivity, you have full control over your bike with FAZUA motor and battery at any time. The intuitive FAZUA app for Android and iOS allows you to conveniently control and personalize your e-bike via smartphone. In detail, it allows you to adjust support levels, speed control and navigation functions. The connection to the smartphone also allows over-the-air updates to continuously improve the performance and functionality of the drive. App control and connectivity gives you the ability to customize your FAZUA system to match your E-MTB, E-City or E-Gravel bike and your riding style.
