Buoyancy shorts serve three main purposes:

1. For beginner or intermediate swimmers, the main factor preventing them from swimming faster is a lack of core stability and their leg kick. Their arm strength and technique are generally good, but their posture is poor, leading to excessive drag and “self-weight,” which makes it much harder to swim efficiently.

2. Buoyancy shorts position the swimmer in the correct horizontal and streamlined position and help develop a “neural pattern” for how they should feel in the water. This also allows the swimmer to focus on a more effective leg kick and glide with each stroke without feeling like their leg is sinking. The additional support also allows the swimmer to focus more on their arm stroke technique. Results have shown that a swimmer’s posture, speed, and endurance can be significantly improved over time through training with buoyancy shorts.
