Details of the Zone3 Premium 5/3mm buoyancy shorts

The Buoyancy Shorts were first developed by Zone3 in 2008. The original version of this product was made from a 5/3 mm thick Smoothskin material. However, due to its overwhelming popularity, Zone3 has now launched a design with greater buoyancy and reduced drag called “The Premium Option.”

The shorts consist of a combination of 3 mm Yamamoto #39 SCS on the front and back and 5 mm Yamamoto SCS Aerodome on the side panels, offering 30% more buoyancy than standard neoprene.

The #39 SCS material provides a softer, lighter, and more flexible fit, while the Aerodome gives the swimmer more buoyancy and hip rotation. This is particularly suitable for swimmers with heavy legs who want to refine their technique.

The SCS coating ensures minimal drag through the water, and the Aerodome material features air bubbles between the neoprene layers that provide 30% more buoyancy than standard neoprene. The 3 mm thickness on the front and back provides additional buoyancy, while the 5 mm-thick side panels complement this by promoting hip rotation with every stroke. There is also a softer and more stretchy inner lining to enhance comfort. The shorts are sewn and bonded just like a triathlon wetsuit.
