The Maxxis Dissector was developed with downhill racer Troy Brosnan to answer a specific question: how much rolling resistance can you save without losing control in a corner? The answer is its 2-3-2 center tread, with a flat profile that carries speed, and strong shoulder knobs that bite as you turn into a corner. In the Maxxis lineup, this Dissector tire sits between the grippy gravity range and the fast XC treads, built for dry to loose terrain. As a trail and enduro tire, you can run it up front, at the rear, or as a matched pair, depending on terrain and riding style.

Maxxis Dissector casings at a glance
Casing determines weight, puncture protection, and sidewall stability. EXO works for lightweight trail bikes, EXO+ or DoubleDown suit rough enduro trails, and the Downhill casing is built for racing. Which rubber compound is available depends on size and casing. On trail bikes, the Dissector runs up front; on enduros, it runs at the rear, often paired with the Maxxis Assegai up front.
Maxxis Dissector EXO
EXO is the lightest casing and suits lighter trail riding. The insert protects the sidewall against cuts and abrasion without making the tire sluggish. If you climb under your own power and ride dry trails that aren't overly rocky, EXO keeps your weight down.
Maxxis Dissector EXO+
EXO+ combines a 60 TPI casing with EXO sidewall protection and a small butyl insert at the bead. This adds more protection against pinch flats and rim damage. This casing suits trail and enduro bikes on sharp-edged terrain, along with heavier bikes and riders.
Maxxis Dissector DoubleDown
DoubleDown combines two 120 TPI layers with a butyl insert and comes straight from enduro racing. This casing withstands heavy loads on bike park runs or long, rough descents. The tradeoff is extra weight, with greater pinch-flat protection and more stability at high speed.
Maxxis Dissector Downhill
Downhill is the most robust casing and comes in 29 x 2.40 exclusively with 3C MaxxGrip. This casing offers noticeably more damping than DoubleDown, absorbing impacts instead of passing them on to you. In 29 x 2.40, Maxxis lists around 1,274 grams for the Downhill casing, leaving you plenty in reserve for race pace and long days in the bike park.

Every Dissector features Maxxis's Wide Trail profile, with tread and tire shape tuned for 30 to 35 mm rim inner widths. It's also Tubeless Ready, so you can run sealant and lower pressure. Compound and casing determine the rest.
