Discover the Maxxis Rekon Race at BIKE24

The Maxxis Rekon Race is the semi-slick in Maxxis’s XC lineup, with the lowest-profile tread in the entire cross-country range. Its tread pattern is derived from the Maxxis Rekon trail tire, but uses smaller, lower knobs. It rolls fast, accelerates quickly, and still delivers noticeable cornering grip. The Rekon Race made its name in the World Cup, where Nino Schurter won in Mont-Sainte-Anne on a prototype. You can run the Rekon Race front and rear on fast courses and in short track racing, or at the rear paired with a knobbier front tire. The Maxxis Rekon Race is available in several compound and casing options, from the robust Dual Compound version to the MaxxSpeed rubber compound.

Why choose the Maxxis Rekon Race

Tread, compound, and casing on the Rekon Race are all tuned for XC riding. Find the right setup for your riding and get it without the wait.

  • Race compound: MaxxSpeed reduces rolling resistance by around 25% compared to 3C MaxxSpeed, according to Maxxis.
  • EXO protection: cut- and abrasion-resistant sidewall protection without making the tire sluggish.
  • No waiting around: plenty of options are in stock and ready to ship, from wire-bead tires to race versions.

Maxxis Rekon Race at a glance

Three builds, one tread: you choose the compound, casing, and bead. Choose based on how you ride and what you want to spend. Racers reach for the MaxxSpeed version with Wide Trail contour, built for rims with 25 to 30 mm internal width. For training, Dual Compound or MPC are solid choices.

Maxxis Rekon Race MPC wire-bead

For a more affordable Rekon Race, the wire-bead version uses Maxxis Performance Compound. MPC is Maxxis’s all-round compound, built for reliable grip and long-lasting performance in everyday riding. The wire bead makes it heavier than the folding options, but setup with an inner tube is straightforward.

Maxxis Rekon Race Dual Compound EXO

The Dual Compound version with EXO protection is the all-rounder of the series. Two rubber compounds in the tread combine low rolling resistance with more cornering grip. It’s the most economical choice for training rides, marathons, and your first XC races. The tan-wall look is only available on this option.

Maxxis Rekon Race MaxxSpeed – built for race day

The race-focused option combines MaxxSpeed with EXO protection, a Tubeless Ready casing, and a Wide Trail contour in 29 x 2.40. This setup is built for race day: low rolling resistance, plenty of volume for lower pressure, and grip on dry hardpack.

Maxxis Rekon Race technologies in detail

Maxxis builds the Rekon Race around three factors: the rubber compound, the sidewall protection, and the tire construction. Together, these features tune the Rekon Race for everything from training rides to race day.

MaxxSpeed technology

MaxxSpeed is Maxxis’s XC race compound, introduced in 2023. Silica in the rubber boosts grip on wet rock and roots without pushing up rolling resistance. Maxxis developed it with Nino Schurter and Team SCOTT-SRAM. The result: lower rolling resistance and better traction in the wet.

EXO sidewall protection

EXO is a tightly woven, cut- and abrasion-resistant layer in the sidewall. It reinforces the area where sharp rocks are most likely to cut the tire, while remaining flexible so the casing retains its natural ride feel.

Wide Trail contour

The Wide Trail XC contour tunes tread and tire shape for wider XC rims. On the Rekon Race, the 2.40 version is optimized for a 30 mm internal rim width – Maxxis recommends 25 to 30 mm, with 30 mm as the sweet spot. The wider profile adds tire volume and contact area, letting you run lower pressure.
