Efficient bike with cutting edge technology!
The Editor is an ultra-light urban bike bursting with state-of-the-art high end components - including the Gates drive belt and Alfine 11-speed hub gears. It's all about combining comfort, speed and great handling. But it was also important to CUBE´s designers that this bike had sleek and elegant looks. The Editor represents a virtuoso performance of style, speed and skill; an efficient bike using cutting edge technology.
Because CUBE are using an advanced drive belt, they added special features to the Editor's double butted aluminium frame. The precision-forged Split & Slide dropout can be opened to fit the belt, and accurately adjusted with two screws. When CUBE were designing the frame they aimed for a specific torsional stiffness, because this is the only way the belt can be aligned accurately when under pressure. As for why the frame is so light, only CUBE´s engineers know the reason for that (and they're not telling...)
The Editor is kitted out exclusively with high end components designed for urban use, including the Shimano Alfine gear system with 11-speed hub and Alfine shifter, and matching Deore BR-M615 disc brakes. This high tech bike features the Gates CDX CenterTrack crank and matching drive belt, whose groove system ensures that it's always perfectly aligned. It's also absolutely silent and needs virtually no maintenance. The Editor can easily be retrofitted with mudguards, a kickstand, luggage rack and frame lock, making it suited to a wide range of uses. The minimalist rigid aluminium fork perfectly complements the frame's sleek design and saves weight, whilst also ensuring that the steering is direct and precise.
Aluminium Superlite - Extremely high tensile strength heat-treated 7005 aluminium alloy is developed for the highest requirements. It is very stiff, fatigue resistant, corrosion resistant and has high elongation. CUBE Superlite tubes are double butted, giving very light tubesets with a high level of stiffness.
Advanced Mechanical Forming - With the Advanced Mechanical Forming technology CUBE can mechanically transform different frame tubes and thus optimize them without material-wearing welding work for the respective requirements. Along the obtained organic look, the production method is primarily motivated by
functional reasons. Multiple converted tubes enable CUBE to manufacture lighter and also stiffer aluminum frames.
Smooth Welded - This elaborate procedure with doubled weld seams has two advantages: On the one hand, it improves the firmness of the weld seams and minimizes the load peaks on the tube welds through energy flow and on the other hand, it helps the frame to a better and more organic look due to the smooth and hardly noticeable welds.
Split&Slide Dropout - The SPLIT function allows the frame to open at the rear dropout to enable a drive belt to be mounted. The SLIDE function at the horizontal adjustable dropout allows wheel adjustment and chain/belt tension to be made easily without having to readjust the disc brakes. Adjustment screws avoid readjusting the wheel and ensure perfect function and durability.
Integrated Cable Routing - Internally routed cables offer many advantages. Cables are protected from dirt for longer life, weight is saved thanks to the absence of external housing and the bike has a clean, sleek appearance.
Wet Paint Surface - On polished, brushed aluminium and all HPC frames, the logos and graphics are applied in multi-layer wet paint. CUBE use this surface treatment technology mainly to save weight.
