The 5th generation Mutant is a reliable, intelligently equipped climbing pack for year-round climbs. It is super lightweight, flexible, minimizable and adapts to the season: You can count on this durable climbing partner. If you're climbing in cold weather, you'll appreciate the snow-repellent back panel, side ski holders, and dual ToolLock™ system for quick and secure attachment of your ice tools. The Mutant 38's main compartment is accessed via a removable floating lid. This allows you to pack the pack really full or remove the lid completely for more headroom or less weight. With other backpacks, the load is only minimally protected from the weather in this case and can only be insufficiently fixed, not so with the Mutant 38. The integrated FlapJacket™ closes the backpack weatherproof and keeps your equipment very well fixed. In the lid compartment is a quickly deployable helmet attachment made of mesh. The rear-folding hip straps with integrated gear loops can be used as gear carriers.

ToolLock™ is a feature on Osprey's climbing packs: it consists of a lightweight, durable aluminum rod designed to fit through the hole in the head of a modern axe. This allows mountaineering tools to be quickly, easily and securely attached to and removed from the pack, even when wearing gloves.
