Forekaster – Perfectly Equipped For All Conditions
Also in its second generation, the Maxxis Forekaster is a reliable partner for all occasions. Whether on long tours, moderate trails, a power lap in the forest, or a challenging XC race, this versatile tire is always an excellent choice – even in winter. The main reason for this is its open tread pattern, which does not clog up and, in this way, provides powerful grip in all ground conditions, giving riders the confidence they need in every situation.
Features of the Maxxis Forkaster folding tire (gen. 2)
- 3C MaxxTerra rubber compound (Triple Compound)
- EXO+ sidewall protection
- Tubeless Ready (TR)
- WT construction (Wide Trail) adapted to wide rims
- bead core made of aramid
Triple Compound (3C) | The most important component of the tire is the rubber compound on the tread. Maxxis' 3C mixtures designed for mountain bikes use a harder base compound and two progressively softer compounds on top for optimum handling in the respective application areas. The side lugs are always softer than the center lugs. Different, individually optimized compounds are used for each area of application.
3C MaxxTerra | Among Maxxis' Triple Compound (3C) compounds, the MaxxTerra rubber compound represents the "golden mean." Compared to the MaxxGrip downhill compound, MaxxTerra not only impresses with lower rolling resistance uphill, but also with greater durability. Compared to the XC-specific MaxxSpeed compound, the enduro-compatible compound scores points with more grip and traction.
EXO+ Protection | The puncture protection system is based on a 60 TPI carcass, which is coated with an abrasion-resistant rubber. While a reinforced and rubberized EXO puncture protection layer is used on the tire sidewalls, there is a narrow butyl insert over the tire bead. Equipped in this way, the EXO+ carcass is perfect for aggressive Trail riding and lighter Enduro races. And with appropriate suitability of the tire, it is also an option for E-MTBs with their higher weight and torque.
Tubeless Ready (TR) | Tubeless tires have many advantages. Riding with less air pressure improves traction and rolling resistance is also lower than with inner tubes. In addition, the risk of punctures is significantly reduced by using a sealant instead of an inner tube, as small holes are immediately sealed again.
Wide Trail (WT) | Traditional tires were developed for narrow rims, which is why they are too angular on wide rims and can therefore no longer offer optimum performance. In contrast, the Wide Trail design from Maxxis relies on a tread layout and a tire shape that is tailored to modern rims. WT tires are optimized for 30 mm rims, but also demonstrate their advantages perfectly with an inner rim width of up to 39 mm.
Aramid Bead | Bead cores made from aramid fibers are just as safe as those made from metal wire, but weigh around 50 grams less. The material also allows the tire to be folded, making transport easier.
Note: Tubeless Ready tires require tubeless compatible rims/wheels, tubeless valves, tubeless rim tape and sealing fluid for tubeless mounting. Sealant fluid is not required for tubeless UST tires, but is recommended for increased puncture protection. Installation should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
