Crush meets Plush!
The perfect balance between concentrated power and all-day drive-ability: The brand new Synapse combines exceptional lightweight, race-proven performance and tuned vertical flex to a bike that redefined the term "endurance".
The Synapse Endurance Race Geometry (S.E.R.G.) meets with a slightly higher head tube, a slightly longer wheelbase and a slightly shallower steering angle, the ideal balance between pure racing upright position and comfort.
240 km routes across hell? The Synapse Disc is the ultimate partner for an unprecedented journey!
Cannondale's leading edge carbon construction utilizes BallisTec Carbon Technology to create one of the lightest production road frame ever made, with the best stiffness-to-weight ever measured. Ballistec Carbon is a high-strength fiber developed for Ballistic armor and high-impact resins that build remarkable strength into this ultralight frameset. A special Synapse Carbon layup which means continuous Intermediate-Modulus-Fibers along the upper tube and the seat stays allow an distribution of load peaks all over the frame. Although this fibers bring it to a little more weight than at the HI-MOD models, but allow Cannondale to offer the Ballistec technology to more drivers.
The SAVE PLUS Technology is the real innovation of this Synapse. This revolutionary technology is divided into three areas: Carbon Coating - for minimal to weak shocks: The carbon coating of the synapse was designed to maximize "interlaminar shear strength". Basically it means that the fibers are aligned so that vibrations in the layers are collected and discharged before they reach the driver. Rear triangle and fork - for weak to moderate shocks: Similar to the SPEED SAVE also at the SAVE PLUS rear triangle and fork are designed so that they work together as a system, so that the wheels hit the ground always free, regardless of whether the driver is sitting or standing. The seat stays have a unique helical shape that flexes under load like a spring and compresses, while the fork has a curved shape and offset dropouts, through which they get a balanced vertical compliance with an excellent steering precision. Seatpost and seat tube - for medium to strong shocks: The small round seatpost with 25.4 mm diameter offers more flex than thicker posts, an effect that is reinforced by the design of the wedge-shaped seat clamp. As the seat clamp is not on the top tube, the seat post is more exposed and can intercept more shocks by its flex. The post is complemented by a seat tube that is due to its carbon coating and its curved, flat layout, able to bend along with the seatpost.
All this helps to hide energy sapping blows and bumps in the road - stay fresh longer and be faster!
The seat tube divides asymmetrically into the Power Pyramid to meet a wide 73 mm BB30A bottom bracket. It brings maximum stiffness with minimum weight. The larger tires (28 mm instead of the usual 23 mm) are more comfortable, better suited to changing road conditions and tend less to get a flat tire.
The Shimano Ultegra group combines perfect ergonomics and high-tech materials with precise shifting. Hydraulic Shimano R685 disc brakes enable perfect braking power even in harsh weather conditions. The HollowGram Si is a lightweight and stiff cranksets with superb functionality. The wheels are the new and high-quality, tubeless ready Mavic Aksium One Disc which enable a stiff and dynamic ride feeling.
Why disc brakes on a road bike?
No rim wear (the wheelset will last longer)
No pressure changes inside the tire due to temperature change while braking
Same braking performance in any whether condition
Less rotating inertia (rim weight saving)
Can run even on a non-straight rim (i.e. spoke failure)
History of MTB already tells the way to go...
